I play a pretty cool drow/ranger with the gloom stalker archetype. As a drow, I have 120ft base darkvision and umbral sight gives me an extra 30 ft. Pair that up with goggles of night and you get 210ft. Also from gloom stalker I get the ability to become invisible in darkness, giving me a huge advantage when it comes to unlit combat. Also take two levels in warlock and the you can gain the devils sight eldritch invocation, enabling you to see in magical darkness. Your drow side gives you the ability to innately cast darkness, so now you can always be invisible and at the same time see everything else. Outside of combat, this can also add a nice bit of flavour when it comes to fleshing out your character's personality. Why did they devote themselves to the darkness? Maybe they wanted to be an invisible evil, the unstoppable assassin. Or they could feel some strange aversion to other people, choosing a life of seclusion.

'The Cleverness of mushrooms always surprises me!' - Ivern Bramblefoot.
I've just realised that this combo could be pulled off at just 5th level: 3 levels in ranger, 2 levels in warlock and somehow acquire the goggles of the night
Any cool ranger ideas. One I have is that they are a falconer. They live alone with just their bird. Yes they are a beast master
Creepy hermit type ranger. Maybe a hunter.
multiclass 6 levels with barbarian. Take observant after levels 4 of Barbarian. Totem barbarian 1st totem thing doesn’t matter. Aspect from level 6 of eagle.
you’re a hunter ranger hermit guy that eavesdrops on conversations or hunts your prey from over 1 mile away using observant to lip read and aspect of eagle to see up to 1 mile.

I will mention/point out. You don’t become invisible. Just invisible to things relying on dark vision.
whenever there’s light, to where they don’t rely on dark vision, or the if they have any other vision types besides dark vision to see you. (Devils vision) they can still see you fine.
its literally only to dark vision.
so be careful doing this trick around cultists.... especially if you rely on it vs being more sneaky via pass without trace or whatever.

I'm really enjoying this guy I have. Half orc gloomstalker, marine background, coast favored terrain. I'm playing him in Saltmarsh. The marine background is cool. It gives proficiency with water vehicles and it says "you can automatically find a safe route to land a boat on shore, provided such a route exists." He signed up with the marines to defend the region and was a veteran of many night raids along the coast.
So he is a half orc whose parents were also half orcs and he grew up in a small fishing community on the coast, frequently competing with lizardfolk for food and hunting / fishing territory. He has a chip on his shoulder about half orcs being savages, so he is lawful good and very disciplined. He won't kill prisoners, etc. What might have been rage has been transformed into a grimness.
Mechanically, he is a 4th level Strength-based melee guy, but with 14 dex to use medium armor. Defense style. Fights with greataxe. Favored enemies - lizardfolk and humans. Perhaps not as optimized, but having those two chops with the greataxe with hunters mark and the extra damage as his opener ain't bad. He has 18 Str now and the Orcish Fury feat, so he can tack another 1d12 (or 2d12 with a crit!) onto one of them, too. One thing I would love to see happen is using the reaction attack from relentless endurance and scoring a crit that kills something important - 5d12!
