i actually play the LMoP campaign and my paladin got killed orcs. Now i have to create a new level 3 character.
I want to play a assassin rouge with the criminal / spy background (more spy than criminal) with chaotic good or neutral allignment who infiltrated the red brand ruffians in order to gather intelligence about their plans and intentions (for the harpers). After Glasstaff was captured by my group i was charged as a hit man by the black spider to kill him and the ones who locked him up, in order to keep important informations secrect. Instead i will warn the group and join them to fight the black spider (maybe i will kill Glasstaff anyway). Later i will try to grant them an audience with king grol (by prentending to be a member of the red brands and beeing sent by the black spider) and in a similar way to other places too (if there are any other).
My group always laughed at me, because my paladin had no proficiency in religion :D. This time i wanted to focus my proficiencies around my character (race, class, archetype and background).
I think my stat rolls are unlucky for a half elf (16, 14, 12, 11, 10, 8). I am also not sure if my stats are distributed well (do i want more CHA or WIS - i am not sure abot that). Maybe it's better to change the race?
You might consider putting your expertise in Deception rather than Perception. If you're seeking to infiltrate, I'd assume having a good deception skill will help with both how good you're poker face is when deceiving the Red Brands and King Grol. It can also help with disguises (depending on how your DM determines your disguise -> could be roll a D20 + proficiency (Disguise) + Deception... or just D20 + proficiency (Disguise)).
Did you apply the the +2 Charisma, +1 to two other stats? It wasn't clear. Also, if you're using Tasha's new rules, you can possibly move the +2 to any stat (bump up that Dex to 18).
If you took the Charlatan background, as this could give you a disguise kit (as well as the thieves tools). Could be useful, but you'd move around some of the skills/proficiencies with that background.

Oh well, that is a damn good idea, if i want to avoid fights and roleplay my way through instead. If my DM won't let me add both proficiencies i think i will go for deception. Otherwise its equal to expertise and i will keep perception. Hard decision, now that you mention it. Initially i thought about perception because even if you infiltrated a group/gang you may not have access to all areas of their residence, so you need to break into those restricted areas secretly (which requires some awareness/perception).

I did not even know about that rule. Thanks for the hint. Have to ask my dm if he allows it (i think he does). Edit: Yes we are allowed to use it. One of my fellow group members already asked that question.

I think i will buy the disguise kit before starting the adventure. If i am correct i have to pay only 25g and get some additonal gold for joining the adventure with a new level 3 character.
Btw: What do you think about acrobatics, athletics, persuasion and intimidation. I currently left intimidation for pursuasion because my character tends to be more to a good alignment. Also i left acrobatics for athletics because of climbing.
Ah, got it. I saw only 15 GP in the character sheet, so I wasn't sure. It'd be a good buy (the disguise kit).
I think its wise to cover yourself with athletics, as you're lowest stat is STR, so this allows you more options. Acrobatics is great, but if you're climbing you want the Athletics check. I like persuasion over intimidation in your build based on your character description. You're trying to infiltrate, so intimidation moments could be used to RP some deception (I am thinking Little Finger from GoT).
Overall I think your character has some solid RP potential. I like how you're thinking outside the box, and not just looking to be a combat centered character. I'm doing the same thing after having played a Gloomstalker (who was a killing machine in LMoP). I'm playing, in a new campaign, a Soulknife. Its set in Eberron. He's chaotic neutral, but that's because he's done bad things. His guild was destroyed, so he's a freelancer. He's not wanting to be an assassin, but he's not against it either. This is my first time playing a rogue, so we'll see. Good luck with the design! I like where you're going with it.

So i want to ask you to look over my build. Does it make sense? Do i miss important proficiencies? Are my stats distributed well?
