Hello, my player would like to use his forge cleric channel divinity (artisan's blessing) to make things not entirely made of metal and not completely solid and I was wondering if it was possible.
The object is a vial of mercury (metal but liquid)
Also Im not sure you can make a custom object with this ability (the same vial could be an example, otherwise picture a small golden mask to gift to a fey friend and other objects not directly covered by the book)
I was thinking about just letting the player make them since is not a big problem but I would like to know what other DMs would do too.
Yes somewhat but it is not far off. I haven't encountered this specific CD much so I'll leave most of the opinions to others but I do think that custom object sounds fine as long as you stick to form and feel but not much function.
I think those two items listed are within reason... the feature implies that any form of metal can be transformed into any other form of metal... it's only the value of the metal that matters. So you could take a steel Greatsword and do some magic gobbledygook to it for an hour and bam, now you've got 50 gold pieces instead. Mercury is just a different type of metal.
The challenge is, you, as the DM, have to decide how much a vial of Mercury is worth. I don't think mercury is listed anywhere in the rulebooks, and there are relatively few practical uses for it for an average party... it's also extremely rare. I believe in the real world Mercury costs more per-ounce than Gold, but we have modern techniques for acquiring and processing mercury... in a medieval setting, it's nigh-on a purely mythical substance. Then again, it's a fantasy world... there could be a river of the stuff somewhere in the Underdark with a bunch of mad thermometer-makers regularly harvesting it. If I had to just make up a number for it, I would probably just say that it's the equivalent of Platinum... as in, one platinum coin weighs 1/3 oz. and is worth 10 gp, so 1/3 oz. worth of Mercury costs the same amount.
A gold mask seems simpler... it's basically turning other metals into treasure, so it's just a matter of how much money your cleric wants to put into it to determine it's value. if they only use one gold coin's worth of metal it would probably be a shoddy mask with barely any gold elements, but if they use about 50 gold worth of metals it becomes an elaborate gold mask worth 50 gp in its own right.
I’d allow a vial, and I’d allow mercury, but it would take two uses of the power. The vial and the thing in it are two separate objects. Though I guess you can make multiple pieces of ammunition, so maybe you could make the vial and mercury in one go, so long as it’s under the gp limit. Twice could work better, though. You could hold 100 gp of mercury is a fairly cheap flask
And I think the thing like a gold mask for a gift is a great idea. It probably wouldn’t be the most intricate and beautiful piece of art, but it would be nice enough. Though with a cheaper metal (copper, tin) it could be prettier, to balance out the value. Just looking at the art objects treasure table in the DMG, there’s 25gp and then the next tier is 250, all the way up to 7500. So a 100 gp item is going to be on the low end in terms of quality.

Both of those should be fine. As I've said in the other thread, what is important is that the "goal" object is metal. Mercury is metal, oil isn't, so liquid mercury is fine. A golden mask is just shaped metal, so no problem there.
You just have to decide their value to determine the amount of material used.

Have you looked for other threads? This one has some discussion about how/what Artisan Blessing can be used for.
Yeah, but I think it's different kind of situation
