With pre built character sheets the wood elf gets +7 for their roll for shortbow, where does the +7 come from? Isn't longbow dexterity? Their dexterity is +3 and they aren't proficient in it so it should be no bonus.
The Hill Dwarf has strength +2 with no bonus but yet their attacks are +4
The human has +3 strength and -1 dexterity with no proficiency on either somehow has +5 for the axe and +5 for the javelin
High elf has +0 for strength and no proficiency for it and has +4
Then we have the Lightfoot Halfling who actually makes sense. +3 dexterity with +2 bonus making it +5 and their daggers are +5 as they should be. Why do the other 4 characters seem like they're incorrect?
The Wood Elf Fighter uses a Longbow, which uses the Dexterity Modifier (+3). As a Fighter, he is proficient in all Simple and Martial weapons, including the Longbow so he adds the Proficiency Bonus (+2) Under Features and Traits, he chose the Fighting Style: Archery (+2 to ranged weapons attacks) for a total to-hit for +7.
The Hill Dwarf Cleric has proficiency in Simple Weapons, which includes the Handaxe and Mace. Both are Strength-Based (+2) and he has proficiency for both (+2), which totals to the +4.
The Human Paladin uses a Battleaxe, which uses his Strength Modifier (+3), As a Paladin, he is proficient in all Simple and Martial Weapons (+2) for a total of +5. The Javelin is a Thrown Weapon, so Strength again (+3) plus Proficiency (+2) for a total of +5.
The High Elf Wizard has the Species Trait "Elf Weapon Training" which gives her proficiency in Longsword, Shortsword, and longbow. (I think this was part of the 2014 rules?) The Shortsword is a Finesse Weapon, so can use her Dexterity modifier (+2) and her Proficiency Bonus (+2) for a total of +4.
Thanks, I didn't even notice the other part of the sheet that mentions other bonuses. I was just playing off the rules which aren't well written I think. I'll probably buy the real rule book.

Yeah, those characters have been around for awhile and all seem to have been built with the Basic Rules (2014) . I can see a couple discrepancies between those and the rules in the D&D Free Rules (2024) (Most notably, "Elf Weapon Training" was indeed removed from the Elf species in the 2024 update), but as far as the To-hit numbers go, and if you're using Level 1 Premades with the 2024 rules, they probably want you to use the ones based on the Dungeons & Dragons Cartoon. All the other premades are were built on the 2014 rules.

Can you show the characters?
The wood elf probably has the archery fighting style.
The hill dwarf probably did have proficiency.
The human probably had proficiency in some way.
The high elf had no proficiency for what?
