Sometimes a monster's resistance in the various monster manuals will read. 'Bludgeoning, Piercing, and Slashing from Nonmagical Attacks' and sometimes it reads 'Bludgeoning, Piercing, and SlashingResistant to non-magical attacks that aren’t silvered.'
Is this same thing just different wording? Or are there some monsters that require magic and silver doesnt work?
I think the second one is correct. Some monsters will be damaged fully by silvered or magic weapons. Some monsters are still resistant to silvered weapon attacks but take full damage from magic weapons.
Lots of creatures have resistant or immunity to non-magical weapons. You need a magical weapon to ignore hurt them fully, silver etc. do not matter.
Some Were's (Lycanthropes), Constructs, Deathlocks and fiends (Devils) (Not Demons) have immunity or resistance to non-magical weapons that aren't silvered. You need a silver weapon OR a magical weapon to hurt them fully.
Some Sorrowsworn are resistant to all weapons when in dim light or darkness. You need a bright light to do full damage to them, even magical weapons do not hurt them fully unless in bright light.
Some constructs, Gargoyles and Xorn are immune or resistant to all weapons not made from adamantine You need an adamantine weapon to hit them, even magical weapons do not hurt them fully.
Generally, by the time you are facing enough creatures that need magic or silver, you are high enough level to have a magic weapon. +1 is uncommon, not rare. I haven't really found a good reason to buy silver weapons, unless you are outfitting an army to fight devils or weres. Constructs and Deathlocks are rare enough that even that use is unlikely.
There is pretty good reason to have an adamantine back up weapon. Even if you are not facing gargoyles, xorn, or constructs, the value of auto-critting when attacking a door or a chest is well worth the cost of an adamantine backup weapon, especially for a low level person

Yep. There are monsters that resist silvered weapons too.
