So been a while since I've played trying to figure out how these classes with different armor proficiencies work, for example if multi classing from a warlock into a paladin would I gain paladins armor proficiency as soon as I take the level in paladin or would I be better off doing the reverse and start as a paladin and the multi class into warlock trying to get my head reorganized to make this make sense
This table shows what proficiencies you gain when picking up new classes with multiclassing. Since paladin only gives you medium armor when you gain the class through multiclassing, you'd be better off starting as a paladin.

Very true. The character would also get a small hit point gain by starting as a paladin.
