Plant growth specifies that all plants in its area become overgrown.
I assume this doesn't apply to locations that don't contain plants at all, but what about areas that contain limited plants? For example, if I cast it on a lawn, it obviously applies to the hedges, but what about the grass? The flowerbeds? The trees near their trunks? The trees under their branches that are normally 20' above me? The pathway that has a few weeds growing through cracks between the stones?
Well, they’re all plants, so they would grow. Do you mean, in this lawn example, what would happen in the sidewalk and street? I guess that would be DM ruling as to whether or not there are enough little sprouts and such to have an effect. If there’s plants on, say either side of a five foot strip of sidewalk I’d rule it’s covered. Wider than that and it might get dicey where a big tree might grow enough to impact the area, but a tuft of grass might not.
It depends. I personally would take the bit about it being plants in the area as flavor and allow the mechanical bits to work basically everywhere. On the other hand, my DM has basically said "it won't work in Avernus."
