I hope this makes sense. I'm trying to ensure I'm working the math out correctly for the distance when a Dwarf makes a Long Jump.
Dwarf: 20 str
Dwarf Movement: 25
Long Jump according to Player's Handbook
Long Jump. When you make a long jump, you cover a number of feet up to your Strength score if you move at least 10 feet on foot immediately before the jump. When you make a standing long jump, you can leap only half that distance. Either way, each foot you clear on the jump costs a foot of movement.
Setup:
Picture this: The dwarf finds himself in the heart of a rickety rope bridge, under attack by two menacing Chimera. With the bridge planks in a precarious state, every step is a challenge. The Dwarf, determined to reach safety, decides to make a daring Long Jump to the other side of the bridge. However, the condition of the bridge planks makes it difficult terrain. The Dwarf must use his 20 movement to move 10 feet and then make the long jump.
Question:
The Dwarf jumps.
1) According to the rules, it seems like he was able to jump 20 feet. So, he was able to move 20 feet for 10 feet (due to difficult terrain) of his normal movement and then jump for the additional 20 feet, getting a total of 35 feet. Even though it was more than the Dwarf's standard movement, this seems to be the correct distance. Is this correct?
2) If, in this example, there is no difficult terrain, the dwarf moves 10 feet, jumps an additional 20 feet, and then moves the remaining 15 feet for a total distance of 45. Is this accurate?
3) It does not look like a Long Jump is an Action, so the Dwarf could make an attack once he has completed his movement. Am I correct with that?

No to both. Jumping costs movement and thus if the Dwarf has a speed of 25ft then that would be his max no matter if he's walking, running. jumping or whatnot. There are page upon page of discussion about what happens when a creature runs out of movement mid-jump and I'd suggest you do a search for those as they will likely help you out with what you are trying to understand.

This is correct. Making a jump does not stop you from using your action for whatever other thing you might want to do on your turn. However, to be able to make useful jumps it is quite often the case that taking the Dash action is needed. But that's a choice you'll have to make on a case-by-case basis.
Each foot jumped uses a foot of movement and is thus limited by how far you can move.
1) If you move 20 feet, all you can jump is 5 feet. If you use the Dash action you could jump up to 20 feet instead and would have 10 feet of movement left.
2) If you move 10 feet, all you can jump is 15 feet. If you use the Dash action you could jump up to 20 feet instead and would have 20 feet of movement left.

Haha especially if you Grab 'em by the beard :)
Thanks for the feedback, everyone!
