So I'm thinking, with all the spells, invocations, etc., which add damage dice to a weapon attack, as you gain levels, the base damage dice of your weapon type becomes less and less significant. I.e. at first level a great sword will do an average of 2.5 more points of damage than a longsword wielded with one hand, which is significant at low levels. However, at higher levels, generally the extra damage dice with those spells, smites and such render the damage difference nominal between the two weapons, as the bonuses of the smites and such use their own specific dice. The only exception might be with a fighter getting three or four or more attacks.
My question is: well, I actually came across a spell, invocation, or feat which increases damage using the damage die of whatever the weapon is. I thought this might give a good reason to use a great sword (not that there aren't others). The thing is, I can't find the listing of this power, having forgotten where I read it. Does anyone happen to know of such a feature? Thanks in advance!
Addendum: I think “nominal” was not the right term, but the significance of the weapon’s base damage diminishes as one’s level advances. I am referring especially to the Warlock, which I am building now, who gets two attacks maximum.
You're probably thinking of the UA Fighter subclass "Brute" which was scrapped.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
Hmmm... thanks for that! I checked out the Brute, similar to what I meant, though pretty sure that's not exactly what I meant, though. I should explain more clearly! I came across a feature that adds damage dice to a hit with a weapon, the dice added being that of the weapon, instead of being specified as d6 or d8, etc. So the extra damage dice depend on the weapon, such. that, for example, a longsword wielded with one hand has d8 extra damage dice, while a dagger would have d4.
I think it's likely I was scanning across a rule about critical hits or a feat, something like that. It would seem there are no spells or invocations which function that way. Anyways, thanks Sigred for your response!

Does the feat Orcish Fury and the Half-Orc racial Savage Attacks ring a bell?
Yeah, something along those lines, I imagine!
