Lets say the party burns through most of the legendary resistances of this boss right
The monk has saved up his ki points and the wizard makes sure he was all rested and stuff the night before in preparation for the few points of exhaustion he'd have to take today
The monk goes in and punches the boss and expends 3 of his points for quivering palm
next round
The monk activates the Quivering Palm
Boss makes the save
Chronurgy Wizard says: "no lol convergent future"
Can the Chronurgy Wizard and Monk just repeat this until the boss just insta-dies from the Quivering Palm?
If the party is in Tier 4 play, and if the monk hits, and if the monk spends ki points to enact Quivering Palm, and if the monk then on a future round uses its action to use the quivering palm vibration, and if the monster has no legendary saves left to just instantly save, and if they roll high enough to pass the save, and if the wizard is within 60 feet, and if the wizard has their reaction left, and if the wizard takes on a level of Exhaustion....
... then yes, the enemy would just go down to 0 HP, regardless of what it rolled. Great way to kill a Tarrasque, if you can force it to use up it's legendary resistances!
It's high level play, powerful stuff happens. Chronurgy Wizard is certainly pretty good at empowering "save or die" abilities, and Open Hand monk has a pretty cheap and easy to enact save-or-die effect that it can use round after round, so not a bad combo.
I can honestly say I’ve never allowed any Critical Role stuff in my campaigns because I find they’re more thematic than balanced. But like @chicken_champ said above, at this level usually baddies have Legendary Resistance and as a DM you save EVERY one of them for this trick. Otherwise, expect battles to be very anti climactic.
Like the title says

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.

Also DM could just say "no, thats boring" and just double the save damage instead of dropping dead. I realize that isn't RAW, but...
Vorpal weapons have no insta kill boss rules built in, guess they overlooked monk.
