This is an idea I had after watching the live play campaign Tesseract from the youtube channel Arcane Arcade, and that setting's twin planets Sormul and Brimbur. I think its a really interesting idea and given the lore of Abeir and Toril, could result in some massive events occurring. It's something ive already implemented into my version of the Forgotten Realms, and I'd like to know what others who know more about Forgotten Realms lore think would happen following this. Currently I'm running Dragon Heist, so it's not even been a decade since the new planet appeared in the sky, and is just a background detail for the time being.
I know there's the basic realistic stuff of how the planets' gravity would affect eachother (and other celestial bodies such as the Tears of Selune) but I'm more interested in how other things would be affected. Such as how it would affect Abeir's total lack of a weave, and the Gods of Realmspace having access to it again, and vice versa for the Primordials. Another thing I've thought of is how the Dragon Empires on Abeir would react. Would they eventually try to attack and take over Toril? Could a Dragon literally just fly between the planets if they were large enough to have a sufficient pocket of air follow them? Or are they even strong enough following the Spellplague to do something like that? The Forgotten Realms wiki doesn't have any info on them post Spellplague, so I wouldn't know there.
Posted about this on the Forgotten Realms subreddit, but most of the discussion I got was about the realistic effects of binary planets. So not really what I was hoping for lol.
I would think that the magical effects of the two planets would impact spellcasting- suddenly a spell might act odd as a result of the magical clash. My lore on the forgotten realms is pretty sword coast central, so I’m not sure, but I would expect something like wild magic surges or dead magic zones.

For the Weave and Magic part I'd say it depends on the details, but from my understanding the lack of Weave on Abeir is due to the fact it's separated from the rest of Realmspace (perhaps also because it's separated from the Gods and thus Mystra). In my opinion if Abeir were to pop back as a twin planet to Toril, the weave would work normally on Abeir.
For the Gods & Primordials bit, I'd say I might very well cause conflicts. At best they might stick to their turf but I doubt it would last long.
As I see it, I don't think having Abeir and Toril as twin-planets would change much for most people on both (beside the view). Most people on Toril already don't know anything about what's up on the Tears of Selune so I doubt most would suddenly entertain the idea of going to space to reach another planet (though I admit it would be more enticing than some rocks near the moon)
