I have a concept for a character that was taken in by a dragon when he was a child and raised alongside the dragon's other hatchlings. He's only really interacted with other dragons before leaving home, everyone believes that he was killed by the dragon, and his father was an adventurer famous for dragonslaying (he has no idea about the latter two points). I imagine some funny "you're supposed to be dead!" rp moments, but I don't really have a way of rping the gap between his upbringing and the human world. (Note that the dragon who raised him was a metallic dragon, so he is good aligned). I can imagine him doing some stuff like hoarding things he finds, getting angry at a merchant for price gouging the party because he has experience in identifying the value of items, or wanting to design his own wings so that he can fly like his siblings, but other than that, I don't really have any ideas. I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice.

I think the idea has potential. I'd say the big thing that needs now is some marinating in the DMs world. It's hard to develop "draconic mannerisms" if you don't know much about the game world's dragon culture. So you and the DM may spend some time developing the "dragon world" of the campaign world and from that some mannerisms more reflective of a dragon upbringing can be developed.
If you're not familiar with the type of metallic dragon, the DM should give you access to the Monster Manual and Fizban's (if they're using it) info on the particular metalic dragon breed your character was raised under. Copper and Bronze Dragons (much more irreverent) are very different in worldview and mannerisms than Gold and Silver dragons (much more stoic).
The big issue of course is why would a dragon take a human under it's wing, so to speak. Presumably the dragonslayer died and for some reason the child needed to be taken from the community and raised on a meat intensive diet (though morsels of scraps compared to what the childs brethren ate).

I think it would actually be more interesting for the father to still be alive (this whole character is one glorified httyd reference), so maybe the pc ran away from home for some reason or his father had a near death experience and everyone thought that he was dead (or he was brought back to life). But anyhow I do want his parent to be one of the more stoic dragons, but have the pc have a more chaotic personality (chaotic good), so they do end up butting heads.

This sounds pretty cool, and I think- if I'm interpreting this correctly- that you're looking for small quirks that your character has as a result of dragon parentage? An idea I have right off the bat is to try to look to Mowgli from the Jungle Book for more wild mannerisms. Some others are eating like a dragon, diet choices, simplistic clothing but with a ton of jewelry decorations, trying to build up scale-like armor to imitate the rest of his siblings, tree climbing/jumping to make up for lack of flight, tendency to go after livestock, and roaring attempts. These are mostly just my surface idea, I hope they help :).

Right, HTTYD, duh me :). Yeah, that makes sense. With the chaotic good personality, you're probably going Copper (my preference, or bronze). If you have access to Fizban's (I wouldn't say buy it just for this, overall I'm more ambivalent about the book than seeing it as a must have unless you really want the lore and the specific stat items in it ... I don't think it's an essential book for the game, but if you do have access to it) there's some cool tables on how to design various varieties of dragon's personalities (kinda similar to the ideal/bond/flaw stuff from the players handbook, but I'd say a bit better written). You could use those tables to figure out the PC's upbringing and easily derive a starting personality from that.
