To summarize, our Druid had summoned eagles (Like the ones from Lord of the Rings) as we flew over Vallaki (CoS). The city had fallen to Strahd in our campaign. 11 Zombies, 3 Animated Armors, and 1 Vampire Spawn at this moment. Our Paladin ran in to save townspeople after opening the gate. Only to get attacked over and over. Getting downed by Animated Armor. I was a sharpshooter and our Rogue sat beside me as we sniped on an eagle. Each turn we swooped in dealing damage to the horde.
Our Druid asks the DM if he can transform into a Quetzalcoatlus. DM reads the stats. He was against the idea but offered a deal.
"Percentage dice roll, you need an 80 or higher to know what a Quetzalcoatlus is."
He rolls an 80
He transforms into a Quetzalcoatlus as his eagle vanishes, and swoops in for the Paladin. The Quetzlcoatlus was broken stat wise but we used it fairly (Flyby and Dive attack made it hard to kill) After flying over and aiding the Paladin. We still heard screaming in the town, I ask the druid if I could ride him. I was a Gnome and I had crafted a strap with my rope. Our DM allowed it. We flew to recuse the townspeople. The final battle, the Druid covers me as I pick a lock on the gate to free the townspeople.
Legal or illegal, that's how I love D&D. Our DM made an impossible decision and we kept it fair. Quetzlcoatlus wasn't attacking and the Druid thought it was fair, He only needed to carry the Paladin to safety. Our plan wasn't to murder hobo the horde. It was to save the Vallaki townspeople. I only wish I had more stories like these nowadays. This was also ad-libbed.

Fair warning, to players that say its "Just a game." Please go away. Because there are many moments in this "Roleplaying" game I like to write down.
Tales from the Basement is a series of short retelling of D&D games I've played. Good and Bad, 3.5 to 5e. https://www.wattpad.com/637860496-tales-from-the-basement-let's-quest
