GOAL: Re-engage in the military and ascend the ranks
TRAITS: Left foot is prostethic (by Arty Bearings)
BACKSTORY: Zarask joined the ranks of [Army] and was considered among the best rookies in his batallion.
One day, his unit of 30x was dispatched for an ordinary mission: hunt a White Dragon Wyrmling that was causing havoc among the town. After going up to the snowy peak of [Snowy Mountain near Waterdeep(?)], the group very successifuly surprised the WDW with the javelin throwers opening up and in quick succession the infantry rushed forward - it was a good start. One javelin hit so hard the monster's chest that it stuck there. The "good" didn't change long, though. In instants, the monster knocked out many soldiers with a tail swipe and its colder than death breath weapon. In such an eventfull icy breath-weapon, a few soldiers were instantly frozen in place. Zarask' barely escaped the freezing effect, but his left foot was frozen rock-solid in place. The monster gave no break and rushed, maw wide open and was sure to finish off many more soldiers. It was then, in a feat of rage and bravery, that Zarask didn't flinch to shatter his own foot with his 2H-Hammer to free himself and charge the monster, using the javelin that was already stuck in the monster's chest to further shove it inside the beast. Success! Zarask pushed the javeling down the Wyrmling's heart, killing it instantly. The squad and the town were saved!
His Commander, impressed by his value, used his influence to ask a renowned artificer to provide a left foot prostethic.
Since the battle left scars in his psyche, Zarask took a temporary leave, while recovering from his "Dragon trauma".
Without better "occupation" and in gratitude for his new foot, Zarask now works at Arty's Artful Augment shop as a smith and metalworker. Currently, he is maybe starting to realize that... maybe, just maybe, Arty is not being fair and isn't as well intentioned as she pretends to be.
Arty Bearings, Female Deep Gnome - lvl 6 Artificer
GOAL: become a noble, renowned for her craft and to create Legendary Artisan Masterpieces
MEANS TO ACHIEVE THE GOAL: become a better Artificer, serve the most influent and waste no time with peasants, unless they are important for the goal
STEEL DEFENDER: Jubilee, the peacock Arty can mount Jubilee, although it dramaticaly reduces the speed of the construct and it cannot move far. But for showing, it's doable.
SPELL FOCUS: Runed clockwork dial; by turning and twisting the device, she can cast the spells. To get the spells ready, her "study" is actually constant tweaks and fixes to the device.
BACKGROUND: Arty is a "becoming-of-age" deep gnome in desperate need to be recognized STORY: Arty's a gnome of now, not of the future. Aligned with that, Arty is her moniker now, not the name she was born with to her humble family - to which she cut the ties with as soon as possible. Arty's real name has long been forgotten by her amidst her constant schemes to "get noted or die trying". Arty owns and runs an "Artificer shop" to serve the nobles of Waterdeep with (dis)Functional Prosthetics; "functional or disfunctional" depends on who needs it: influent nobles get the good stuff, all-out-with-the-best-materials and when Arty doesn't consider the buyer noble enough they get the not-so-good, cost-reduced stuff. Her creations are good sellers, although Arty does anything she can to "Reduce cost at all costs". The profit never comes though - all revenue is spent upgrading her (already better than average) Artificer's shop.
WORKSHOP: Arty's Artful Augments - AAA The real business is creating prostethics and prostethic enhancements (if possible, to serve the nobles of Waterdeep), but the shop serves small-time enchantments, device fixing and anything that can turn a quick profit. The shop has two servants, or "Collaborants" (in Arty's terminology). A half-orc that handles part of the metalwork and a Stout Halfling that does the more intricate woodwork and fine tinkering. The shop relies heavily in exploiting Arty's aprentice, Gomok Rofferton. To really turn a profit, Arty sends Gomok to all kinds of errands (legal or otherwise). The challenge comes with Arty's lack of business accumen and therefore the shop barely breaks even. With good sales, the reason for the lack in profits is that Arty compulsively equips the shop with the best tools for every craft - every money earned is spent on that (the ungrateful Half-orc is starting to note, though).
COLLABORANT #1: Gomok Rofferton (lvl 1 Rogue Stout Halfling ) In a fateful day, Arty was running a show to promote her craft in a distant town, trying to find "lesser" nobles that could turn a quick proffit but stumbled upon something better than expected: an "Aprentice"! This day, she met a desperate Stout Halfling by the name of Gomok Rofferton, who had lost everything and saw on Arty's constructs [Steel Defender, Jubilee] and [Clockwork critters], an opportunity to re-construct his family. Arty was quick to promise an aprenticeship and teach Gomok how to do that. (Now... if Arty fulfils that promise, the bond will be broken with Arty being aprentice-less, so there's no incentive for Arty on that, is there?) The relationship is very unbalanced, favoring Arty by a bunch.
COLLABORANT #2: Zarask Durumur (lvl 1 Barbarian Half-orc) One day, Arty received a request of a very influential High-ranking millitary officer: his best rookie crushed his frozen left foot in an heroic deed to save his entire platoon. Arty crafted a brand new foot and since this skilled rookie was not yet ready to go back to the ranks, Arty took advantage of the situation and brought Zarask to her shop as a blacksmith and metal worker. The relationship is very unbalanced, favoring Arty by a bunch.
Gomok Rofferton, Male Stout halfling - lvl 1 Rogue
GOAL: enjoy one last, normal day with his deceased family
MEANS TO ACHIEVE THE GOAL: become an Artificer with enough resources to rebuild them as clockwork constructs; for that, Gomok is an apprentice of Arty Bearings (Artificer)
BACKGROUND: Gomok is a "semi-senior" Rock Gnome that worked as a locksmith in his hometown
STORY: Gomok's adventure started late in his lifespan. Before the adventure he lived a simple yet fulfiled life. He had a trade (locksmith) and a happy family with his wife and two daughters. Until... tragedy ensued! His [Rock Gnome Land (?)] was ravaged by [EVENT (?)], when his wife and daughters perished. Gomok was not in the epicenter in the [EVENT (?)] and escaped unscathed - other than the paralyzing grief and sadness. Roaming aimlessly for days and severly debilitaded until, in a fateful evening, Gomok stumbled upon a "Deep Gnome Artisan" that was showcasing her amazing construct creations in a town square. In an instant, Gomok realized the idea to "rebuild" his family to spend one normal day and get the chance to say farewell.
The Artisan in question is Arty Bearings, who owns a shop in Waterdeep specialized in prostethics and prostethic enhancements. Arty kindly took Gomok as her apprentice, giving him shelter in exchange of working at the shop and running some (somewhat questionable) errands.
My questions: 1) What would be Arty's alignment? She stops at nothing to become a noble and doesn't care much about the welfare of others.
Is that a Neutral Evil?
2) Zarasks backstory: is there such millitary that employs barbarians? (i wouldn't want him to be a fighter) Which mountains are there in the outskirts of Waterdeep? Is the task of eliminating a young wyrmling simple enough to be taken by a rookie' millitary unit?
3) Gomok Rofferton: which event could have killed his family? What city around Waterdeep could he have lived before (that is suitable for a stout halfling locksmith)?
Arty, female deep gnome lvl 6 artificer owns a prostethics shop with two "collaborants": Gomok, a locksmith rogue and Zarask a half-orc metalworker barbarian
Since Arty doesn’t seem to care either way, I think that’s true neutral, since she’s not doing anything overtly criminal but wouldn’t necessarily be against it.
Zarask would probably be employed as a shock trooper, mostly doing heavy damage before the infantry came in. Also, after a quick Google search, apparently Waterdeep is based around Mount Waterdeep, so that helps. And it depends on what kind of wymling: since you said “icy breath weapon,” I’m going to guess White Dragon, which has a CR of 2. Might be the right difficulty.
For Gomok, try an Orc raiding party. It’s plausible, and it’ll put some interesting tension between him and Zarask.

Hello, HadesPrince!!! OMG! THANK YOU!!!! That's exactly the kind of input i was looking for... You improved them by a lot. =))))))

Indeed, i had considered a White Dragon. Didn't know about the "CR 2", which makes it great! =) thanks again
Hi all,
So i have envisioned three characters at once, they are very correlated and i'd like your inputs for inconsistencies and suggestions for improvement.
The main aspect is that i created Arty, the artificer - who owns an artificer shop in Waterdeep.
In sequence, i began considering who would work with her and created two more characters.
Thanks in advance!
