I'm making this thread because I really need some advice for fighting tiamat. Im about to enter avernus to fight tiamat And I was wondering if anyone has any tips for fighting the goddess of dragons. I'm a ranger by the way, so I can get a few spells to help. I have not found msny magic Items, and they are all weak so is there anything I should do to not get killed?

me fred.
Me also like seven hundred other characters that I don´t want to go through.
I am currently writing a collection of short stories called ¨tales from the pocket realm.¨
Tiamat is such a big, dangerous creature that there isn't really any kind of generic advice for fighting her. I will at least say to keep in mind that she's immune to all the damage types associated with her five heads, and is also immune to non-magical weapons. She's also completely immune to all low-level spells... and that's "low level" from the perspective of level 20 adventurers (she's a CR30 monster, just fyi). As a Ranger, you literally cannot learn any spells that will affect her at all, so don't even bother.
She has truly insane passive perception and truesight, so if she's right on top of you there's virtually no chance of hiding from her. She also has a fly speed of 120 feet, so unless you're a hasted Tabaxi monk you probably can't outrun her.
If we knew exactly what your team layout is, there's more we could suggest. But for now it's just the usual advice for facing against big nasty enemies... save your best status effect spells for after you burn through her Legendary Resistances... keep your group spread out enough to avoid getting wiped by AOE, but close enough to still be able to heal each other, take advantage of your environment, and just unload as much damage as possible as quickly as possible.
All I can say is hope your party successfully accomplished the goals in the campaign to reduce Tiamat's final stats when her avatar emerges, because otherwise, you're not affecting her with spells, hiding from her, running away from her, or passing the saves against her breath attacks.
The one time I faced Tiamat, it was a homebrew setting, and we had four L20 characters with Legendary magic items, and my character only survived because he was a Zealot Barbarian, so he kept fighting even at 0hp with 3 failed death saves.
Played halfway intelligently, Tiamat's basically unstoppable. She's got enormous regenerative abilities so combined with her speed she can easily just fly away, then come back five to ten minutes later when she's back at full health and repeat ad nauseum until the party's expended all its abilities. Especially if she focuses her efforts on taking out the healer early.

Find your own truth, choose your enemies carefully, and never deal with a dragon.
"Canon" is what's factual to D&D lore. "Cannon" is what you're going to be shot with if you keep getting the word wrong.

Yeah, we're going to need more info than "I'm a ranger and I'm going to fight Tiamat."
"Which Tiamat?" Is a good place to start. She has 2 stat blocks now. The second one got a pretty big nerf: less than half DPR, -2 AC, lost magic immunity and regeneration, but gained more HP (technically).
Either way, you will need a full party of level 20 players (or a super min-maxed wizard with prep time) at least. Each with a set of strong magic items will help. And if you can find a plot macguffin, do/bring that.

What level are you? Do you have a link to your character sheet?
Are you taking anybody else with you? If not, my advice would be DON'T GO
