Would you like to see DND Beyond add features like group finding forums, digital maps, map creation tools, a digital character token creator, voice or video chat among campaign members? Or will it unnecessarily complicate what’s already offered? What do you think?
I personally think now that Wizards Of https://1921681254.mx/https://100001****/ The Coast owns DND Beyond, this could be a great opportunity to make the website/app the dominant choice for D&D virtual gaming. If they added all these features to their site and app it would eliminate the need for multiple accounts spread across Discord and various VTT sites like Roll20, Fantasy Grounds. WotC could capitalize on adding high quality premade maps, character/monster tokens, avatar packs, etc to their digital marketplace alongside the rulebooks, campaign books and digital dice they currently offer. I’d love to be able to pull out a laptop, tablet or possibly a phone, to play with friends and relatives in different states and have all the necessary tools and resources in one spot.
There’s been a looking for group forum since forever. As far as the others, it seems like you are largely asking for a VTT. Personally, I play in person, so I’ve no skin in that game. There’s good reasons for doing it, and some good reasons not to, so I guess we just have to wait and see.
A map feature would be the best. A map use feature and not one allowing it to be built online in the program. You basically upload any old map. Eventually a map builder could be included.
One controlled by the DM but viewable by the players.
One that the DM can move a mask over it to only let the players see a select portion.
One that the players can move their character around in but only on their initiative. This would be great for in person games until a voice feature could be added. Voice and video are a high data use feature and would more than likely require a small fee of some kind.
They could take it in steps little by little over a few years.
I think the DDB to VTT or not VTT comes down to the resources required to make DDB "the dominant choice for virtual gaming" and whether DDB really wants to be that. A lot of users do not use VTTs and have no interest in DDB becoming a VTT centered service. WotC/DDB do ask about VTTs regularly in their surveys so I'm pretty sure they have a sense as to whether take DDB in that direction or not based upon what the broad D&D market seems to be asking for.
Rather than a VTT, I think DDB would be better if it added robust campaign management systems, like a D&D specific World Anvil. Tools more than the two blank field DMs are granted, through which say Strahd's Taroka Deck could actually be manipulated etc.
Campaign-specific notes on a character that only the DM can see.
The notes would be tied to the specific campaign the character is in, so if the player removes the character from the campaign then the DM notes are lost (never readable by the owner of the PC).

Codes in books. Like the Essentials pack. Every physical book you own comes with a code for DnD Beyond
