From what I’ve learned in past forum posts, you’re better off searching the monster manual for something close to what you have planned or at most attempt to reflavor one into what you are looking for. You have to be careful with that last one.
i still have to do it with my own one-shot for characters based on a bard, hunter and war cleric in case my party turns against them for whatever reason.
In that case it will be abnoxious and annoying for them to fight since Breastplate + shield + Shield give an AC of 23 which means a typically level 2/3 character has about 15% chance to hit. All the attack-based characters will be basically useless.
So I run some tables and want to make a boss who has a character statblock,
I was thinking of an artillerist artificer, level 6, sea-elf, fisher background for lore reasons and sharpshooter.
set up: players on a ship, cannon takes out ship, they have to get to close range to fight artificer.
all I need is help with spells he will level up as the characters level up so mostly aggressive although he will get shield.
Spells at any level for artificer artillerist please.
Artificer is a half caster and their spells are meh.
They use their spells for support, buffs, etc. But their main mode of inflicting damage is
Armorer: special weapins built into armor
Battle smith: their pet
Artillerist: their arcane cannon
Alchemist: nope
This character will get obliterated by the party. It will have ~50 hp which is basically 2 fireballs worth.
Party will be 7 level 2 or 3s

It’s this a homebrew thing that I made so he does not get obliterated by the ships cannons
