I am deciding between single or multi-classing my Paladin. I am Lvl 3 Triton Oath of Vengeance and was wondering mechanically speaking what the best class to mutliclass with would be? I keep reading Warlock is a great choice along with Fighter, but I was interested in any other class that might present good synergy. The only one I am not interested in would be Cleric. Thoughts?
I definitely think warlock and sorcerer make the best multiclasses. The share the same casting stat, they shore up the only place where the paladin is weak (ranged attacks). One to two levels of hexblade will turn any paladin build into a SAD EB and smiting machine. That being said, don't do it. I think it's better to accept the mechanically weaker build and go for something more interesting.

Agreed! OP, multiclass into whatever makes sense in the story for your Paladin to do. Paladin/Warlock is great mechanically. But would your Paladin, serving presumably one power already and presumably dedicated to that power, go ahead and make a mystical pact with another power? Think story first, and then mechanics.
Yeah I guess that's been the cross roads I have been at lol. A Paladin-Rogue/Ranger/Bard all would be cool conceptually (and could make sense backstory and motivation wise) but not a great build mechanically. I guess I get worried that it has to be one or the other. I have a super flavorful character that gets wrecked in combat or a OP machine that makes little sense or is 1-2 dimensional. I appreciate the advice!!
i'm of the mindset that your sorcadin is probably one of the best multi-class for paladin because sorcerer shares the same casting stat, metamagic which can be extremely versatile with paladins and gives you more spell slots than warlock would which opens up for more divine smites which are just great.
I like sorcadin because font of magic can make even more slots for smiting. Plus 9 levels divine soul sorc will give you access to several level 5 paladin spells earlier (and cut you off from others...).
3 levels warlock (any, celestial if you want to stay holy) for pact of blade to get eldritch smite which you can stack with divine smite.
I'm thinking wild magic sorc for sure. Whenever I played paladin, I was always looking for that crit to use my smites. Advantage from tides of chaos for sure helps make that happen more often

A Paladin/Warlcok can be a knight in service of an otherwordly Being, making him a Dark Knight/Shadow Knight.
A Paladin/Warlock can be an EX Knight who was betrayed/has betrayed and changed Masters/Faith.
A Paladin/Warlock with a pact of the Old Ones, could have been touched by One of the Old Gods power, by entering in contact by mistake or design with it, by interacting wiht an Artifact or a Temple/Idol.
My Paladin/Warlock (Oath of Vengeance 3/Hexblade 9), is a former Knight, who was betrayed by his country because of court schemes between Nobles and his adoptive Father who was a Knight-Commander, after been left for dead in an Ambush to kill his Father, Him and his Knights, he survived only because his father sacrificed himself, he swore vengeance, walking down a Dark Path, and since he is a Tiefling, his Dark fiendish powers awakens, wich will help him to quench his thrist for vengeance.

I didn't mean to say that no paladin would do that--sorry, I could have been clearer. Your explanations are all great, totally reasonable and in-character.
I should have stressed, "would your paladin do that?" :) Basically, my point was that each person playing a character should (at least if you like playing how I like playing, which is not a given or a requirement :) think first "what would my character as a person do?" and then think "what would be a good mechanical synergy?" So someone says "how should I multiclass?", and my first response is always "what's your character like?" That was my only point, sorry if I sounded like I was saying something stricter.
Lower levels, Warlock is better for the short rest reset of spell slots and the invocations. Higher levels Sorcerer is better for a ton more spell slots and higher level spells. If you are doing a 2-3 level dip, lock for sure. If you are doing a more caster, then definitely sorcerer.
