I've been wanting to create a necromancer for a while, but as a good character, and I wanted his journey to be towards becoming an arch-lich for certain reasons. SO my question is how to do the process without going thru the ritual of asking the elven gods. I've found different info online but one was interesting where you can create a phylactery, but how to do this as a good aligned character, and what components and the energy source to get it made. Thx for any info :)
There isn't really any info on it because it is not a player option. Furthermore, undead (except revenants and a few ghost NPCs) are usually all naturally evil (or unaligned if they don't have their own will).
Yeah, I would go over the idea with your Dungeon Master, ask if he can create a subplot in which your character discovers an ancient ritual to ascend to lichdom. The ritual might involve increasingly evil acts over time, so the slow corruption of your hero might become a theme throughout the game. Alternatively, if you want to play a lich-like character without being evil or taking a long time, consider becoming a Shadow Sorcerer (Xanathar's Guide). Hope this helps!
The best I could tell you is to go back through the online ritual pages and point by point ask yourself is this looks more like a spell element or more like a corruption element. I don't think you'll get away from the financial elements, this is still top tier magic. But it should be doable if your DM is willing. I'm working on a story with this kind of thing and came up with this as a rough guide. And remember that I'm also going non-evil for this build.
