So I like drakes. I think they're cool, and many have different uses. Here's my questions for those who allow players to make one or those who want to get one as a combat pet.
1: Which Guard drake is your favorite? Mine is the White Drake because it seems to be the most useful with having 3 types of movements plus it's basic ability to attack. 2: Are drakes worth making at all? Basic rules has them at CR 2 with 14 AC and around 50 hp, not really making them useful at higher levels but could they be made useful? 3: Kobolds riding Guard Drakes. Good or bad idea? Drakes don't get the Pack Tactics and move the same speed as kobolds, but may make the little creatures more threatening by the use of a battle mount.
Black because amphibiousness. Leads to them being useful in guarding sewers, for example.
Yes, drakes are worth making... but are the players really going to have the knowledge to do so, given that ritual is given to members of the Dragon Cult of Tiamat generally (in Forgotten Realms that is)
Yes, because kobolds have pack tactics so *their* attacks will have advantage (or a straight roll in sunlight) so long as they are in melee with their guard drake mount. And yes, that would be terrifying for low level characters, and I love it.

I have some great memories involving a green from a campaign in which I was a player. Basically, a gnome rogue/fighter subdued the beast, tamed it and used it as a mount. The drake effectively became part of our party.

I read "seduced" instead of "subdued" and was very concerned for a moment.
