I'm playing in a homebrew game and currently, my Shadar-kai Rogue (Swashbuckler) has just multiclass into Warlock (Hexblade) because my character was able to find a patron early on in the game. My character is four levels of rogue and 1 level of warlock and my stats are STR 11, Dex 18, Con 16, Int 16, WIS 12, CHAR 18. My goal was 12 levels of rogue with 8 levels of something else (warlock was really convenient and progressed my character story-wise).
I know that waiting for many levels before I take an additional level in warlock isn't realistic for my character since she has always wanted to do magic, but the extra sneak attack damage is vital as our party only has four players (including myself). I need evasion soon because that will allow me to negate the bulk of the damage in future battles, but ignoring a patron could result in me having character levels I cannot access. Has anyone done this build before and has a satisfying solution for when to take levels in each class? I also don't know what invocations, besides thirsting blade, to take because I will only get 4 and I don't want them all to be combat-oriented.
Secondly, I have a question regarding Illusion magic. My rogue spent almost all her gold to purchase a +1 Rapier, and by infusing it with some otherworldly crystal, has aligned the sword to illusion magic. The DM has hinted that I could place an illusion spell into my sword (possibly giving the sword charges to cast that spell) but I can't think of one that would be a good choice. Given, it might be a few levels before I even have the opportunity to get a spell in my sword I still want ideas to play around with. I thought about shadow blade (as it would be funny, but also output damage) but our campaign is heavily Shadowfel oriented. We are fighting creatures that are resistant/immune to necrotic and psychic damage. One I seriously considered was Phantom Steed (as it would be a great way to get around the battlefield or just travel in general) but I really want something that will increase my damage output (as a player I tend to select evocation, conjuration, and transmutation spells) and I illusion magic isn't something I really considered before. Are there any spells you can think of that would be good for damage from the illusion school of magic? My DM is okay with homebrew as long as they approve it first.
Have you considered Invisibility? Better for utility than consistent damage, but don't discount the Advantage on that first attack giving you Sneak Attack damage. Even better if you also pick up Elven Accuracy.

Canto alla vita alla sua bellezza ad ogni sua ferita ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!
from experience, a warlock in the Shadowfel with shadow blade is absolutely amazing
my dm let shadow blade be my hex warrior weapon for hexblade patron and I dual wielded with a pact elven longsword (fineness and light) beleive me shadow blade is awesome
also pick up booming blade. for extra swashbuckler cheese (BB then move away without provoking opportunity attacks. the enemy can either move and take damage, or waste its turn.)
your damage with shadow blade, BB, and sneak attack (at 5th level) will be 3d8 + 3d6 + 5 = average 29 + an extra 10 damage if they move.
pretty great, eh?

Not leveling in warlock is not synonymous with ignoring your patron.
Not that many monsters are immune or resistant to psychic damage (basically just constructs and mind based monsters).
