So I am not sure where to start so lets start with my current situation. Me and a friend were having a one to one story going on for 3.5 for a while now. I will skip details about it in short in a low magic setting (magic exist actually in the world it is just the place I am currently in is a very low magic place) I am playing a warblade 3/fighter 1/swordsage 1. The character started from warblade 1 and came all the way to his current situation. My DM is an archaeology grad and currently doing his doctorate and he is very fond of ancient roman empire so I am in a spartacus-like setup at the moment infact currently I am a gladiator who is trying to revenge his family and friends and scheming while fighting in arena. My DM and I personally prefer rolling stats and with good luck i got the scores of 16, 16, 16, 14, 14, 6 which my current character being str 16, dex 17 (with 4th level increment) con 16, Int 14, Wis 14, Cha 6. During course of game lets say I level up as the situation demanded rather than on a set course since I was only player and my character was somewhat unique around the part of world where I am since only my character and his mentor were martial adepts (which his mentor executed as a traitor to empire in front of me at arena) I have two +1 gladius and a breastplate. My mentor was blacksmith of our little fishermen settlement and I learned weaponsmithing from him as well as how to use various weapons.
As a player I am fond of two-weapon fighting and since this is not a campaign about who has the biggest dps or something I would like to keep it that way. My swordsage was unarmed variant because I got attacked while cleaning and it was made to me obvious that I need some insurance while I am butt-naked that I can still take care of myself lucky though it seems it won't be that much of an issue in 5th. My swordsage also had abilities from Shadow hand just so when I decide to escape they would help greatly. Initially my characters aim to get Master of Nine dipping with 3 levels of bloodclaw master (tiger claw was my favorite discipline)
Being that said we decided to move to 5th edition after getting together from a 3 year hiatus (his master program moved him to otherside of country but for doctorate he returned being my roommate) My question would be what would be a good representation of this character? There are two important notes about this character. 1) he needs to be versatile melee combatant (as less magic as possible) if that is even possible since he fights in arena as a gladiator he faces against different kind of opponents and sometimes outnumbered 1 to 2 or 1 to 3, he was also preparing his escape so he needs to be able to handle at least stealth at some point. 2) he needs to be a dual wielder which is my own personal taste. I am aware multiclassing in 5th is not recommended and even than getting more than 2 class is a big no-no (or at least it is not encouraged) but from what I played so far and what i might need in the next couple of levels, I think I need a combination of fighter/ranger to get interesting combat features and either rogue or monk to get a stealth and combat focus going.
Like I said before my leveling was based on situations in the story and it needs to be emulated as such I can get a 5 level fighter and my DM would probably say ok but it does not feel like the character I played so far. The closest one I came for is a fighter 2/ranger 2/rogue 1 build however I am not sure if I should go with this one or a fighter 4/rogue 1 totally ditching ranger or should i get monk instead of rogue in the first one. I can change two stats placement and feats are ok to use. No uneatheted arcana stuff allowed only stuff that was printed by official wizards.
I know this is probably a dead thread but just increase I am currently working on a 3.5 Swordsage to 5e conversion the sad truth is that there is no good conversion to 5e. The closest is a Warblade conversion to Battle Master fighter. You could go 6 levels of shadow monk and then go the rest of the way as a Battle master fighter that would give you stunning strike, a teleport ability, and from level 9 on manuvers form the battle master fighter you could also take feats at 4th and 8th level to get feats that increas your ki by 2 at 4 and get two bounous manuvers at 8. That would give you 5 maneuvers at 9th level and 8 ki points. by the time you get to level 13 you would have 7 maneuvers with action surge fury of blows ect..
That is the closest I can get a very weak dual class between shadow monk and battle master fighter.
