So this thread can be for any discussion related to the Glitchling race that's in the latest UA (latest as of making this thread at least), and obviously that race is gonna undergo some changes before it gets an official release, but I wanna mess around with the UA that's available now rather than try and keep my hype going all the way until an official release, so there's one question I've got that I wanna kick things off with; do Glitchlings need food/drink/sleep? Their creature type is Construct, but normally even construct monsters get the Constructed Nature note specifying that they don't need food, drink and sleep, and I didn't see that in the info for Glitchlings. It's kinda weird to imagine a construct needing food, drink and sleep, especially given how they handled a sorta-construct playable race with Warforged, but based off the fact that even monsters with the construct creature type get a note about it, it doesn't seem like Glitchlings have that trait.
I think the reason why is that they already get so much. I do know that the 14+dex is getting changed for sure but others likely will be to if they want to add room for it. Question do continue the conversation: Why are they called glitchlings with the lore that they have.
I feel like some of the traits they have may end up getting dropped entirely. I feel like it raises too many questions about how Glitchlings function to have them require food. Sleep and water are one thing. Even Warforged require a period of being inert, and a need for water could be hand-waved as them operating on some sort of steam-power system, or at least having a water based cooling system, or something like that. Even breathing could be hand-waved as a need for air resulting from a sensitive part of their functionality. But food is just really weird. I think until the official release comes out, I'm gonna operate under the assumption that not including a trait specifying that they don't need certain things as a construct was just an oversight, cause I don't really see them changing that bit of internal consistency among constructs, and the race as a whole needs some nerfing anyways.
As far as the name goes, it could potentially be a stand-in name, similar to how Harengon and Owlin were called Rabbit Folk and Owl Folk respectively before their official releases. But if I had to hazard a guess, I think it's more likely that it was just the most "yeah this sounds like a name for a construct race" name they could think of.
My problem with the name thing is just that they are welcomed back to mechanus with open arms, but if they were glitches i would think they would be hunted instead.
Maybe it's more that their job was finding and reporting glitches? Or at least what the mechanical beings of Mechanus would consider "glitches" (like maybe finding and reporting dead/wild magic zones).
My guess is they wanted to leave a certain degree of vagueness in order to keep it open to player interpretation. I know I'm better at coming up with creative takes on characters when there's less details regarding their culture and such. Which is why in the debates that have sparked over playable race lore not being something they do much for anymore, I'm in favor of bare-bones lore, cause aside from the fact that exact culture and lore and such is obviously gonna vary from setting to setting, especially if you're in a homebrew campaign, I personally find subconscious pre-conceptions about a race that results from extensive racial lore borderline impossible to shake, which impairs my creative process. To use a metaphor, it's easier to coordinate decorating an empty house than to try and force your vision to work with several irremovable pieces.
EDIT: Plus, they did specify that they're tied to lawful planes, and Mechanus is just an example of one. They don't nessicarily have to be from Mechanus.

Maybe but then they should have said that
