I want to have your opinion on a custom pact of the blade warlock.
First of all, we banned hexblade not so much for the power but for the lake of flavour. So this warlock takes pact of the fiend instead. But since his goal and patron is very specific we decided to change a little bit the pact, so now : -The warlock can have as many as pact weapon as he want but can still only summon one -all his weapons are somehow magic even if they can be really bad or really good (the actual weapons are just funny but balance item and sometimes even weak items) -the idea is that his patron provide 4 starting weapons and he can add as much as magic weapon as he wants
BUT, when he decides to summon his weapon, the summon is actually random, so he rolls a dice equal to the number of weapons he has, so with bad luck he can get range weapon in hand to hand situation, or a dagger when he wanted an axis. So the warlock doesn't have acces to the original weapon of the pact and its fantastic versatility moreover since we banned hex we decided to add a new occult invocation : This will give the ability to use hex curse a number of time equal to charisma modifier per long rest. What do you think of it ? Is it balance ? OP ? or lacking some power ?
In the third case (since that pact of the blade without hexblade lakes of power) I actually have two ideas to upgrade the pact, first one is to give every pact of the blade the ability to use charisma modifier (as hexblade) second one is to give another 'slot' of pact weapon, that will be his favorite weapon. So he can summon this weapon or using the random dice, so it gives him a solid option when he doesn't want to play random
So tell me what do you think of that ?
(PS: sorry for my incorrect english, I am not a native speaker and I don't want to review my post 1000 times to get it correct I hope you still understand)
Maybe you could include some sort of mechanic where he has a certain number of times per day that he can select it, rather than it being always random.
For example, a number of times per long rest equal to proficiency bonus, he can select the weapon and will have it for the next minute. Otherwise, he can roll and get a random weapon at no cost of charges.
Could use spending a spell slot gets the weapon of his choice (very expensive given how few spell slots the warlock has), or just a finite number of times per long rest.
I think that using a spell slot to select the weapon makes more sense here, since giving him the ability to chose several minutes per day seems to broke the all idea of the pact. But I was wondering since max level we will reach is 13th, maybe I could blend that to the fact that he gets as many spell slot as his proficiency (so 3 at level 5 , 4 at level 9) I think that will be a great way to reduce the cost of the weapon selection, without beeing op since we will not go above level 13. What do you think of that ? Thank you for your answer.
