In a campaign where periodically we can switch up our characters a bit. We include a bit of homebrew andI'm wanting to try a Hexblade with a dip in shadow sorcerer. Here is what I'm working with:
Rolled stats: 14, 15, 16, 16, 16, 17
Yuan-ti
Weapon: +1 scythe (greataxe) with +1 rod of the pact keeper abilities.
Armor: Mithral with no max dex bonus. Gives the actor feat.
I have a homebrew feat that gives me 4 additional known spells for Warlock.
We have talked about testing out an ability to replace the shadow sorcerer than when I make the DC I get up as an Anathema, but we have to figure out the balance for that, willing to hear ideas.
Anyway, what would you do? Kind of bouncing between aiming for 17/3 (either way) or 12 hexblade/8 shadow sorcerer. Suggestions?
Wow that is a super stacked build overall. You rolled almost perfect stats and got the best item a warlock can get. Your Armor class will be super high as for some reason your mithtral has no max DEX modifier making it easy to get to an AC of 20 with a shield as a Warlock which also gives you a feat that gives you a +1 in your main stat and advantage with Mask of Many Faces foolery.
On top of this you get 4 additional spells and could potentially become a CR 12 monster?
Frankly it doesnt matter which way you go because either way you are going to be dominating unless the others have similar character builds.
Overall I would just pick versatility over pure power as you will be steam rolling most monsters as is.
Also although it seems very cool I would avoid the "Darkness + Devils Sight" combo as in practice I have found it to be painful for my party mates.
Well, not as steam rolly as you think. The game is very much a power game and while we occasionally run into weaker monsters, they are usually working for demons and the such. The DM is a heavy homebrewer. I could obviously go any direction, was just trying to find the best direction. I skipped darkness + devil's sight because the dip into sorcerer gives something similar. I decided 17 Warlock/3 Sorcerer so I could get more invocations and high level Warlock spells, but occasionally nova when I want.
Edit: Noticed you mentioned Mask of Many Faces, one of my more favorite invocations. I was thinking of using my invocations to max out my melee attacks with a pact weapon and then dump the rest into bumping eldritch blast, relying on spells for getting through role playing situations, but I am sure I can find space, that is why I originally wanted actor back in the day when I first started making this character.
