Currently playing this subclass with a Tiefling Sailor LVL 7. I love this subclass so much. With the 2 spell slots limitation, this subclass gives you so many other combat situations. 1/2 damage using reactions with the tentacles, or hexing an opponent and hitting them with 2 eldritch blasts - then following up with a bonus action attack with tentacle + hex damage, there are so many things you can do!
It's been out for a while, wondering how others feel about this subclass, and has anyone found optimal multi-classing with it? What kind of spells are you utilizing with this subclass (the additional lightning bolt spell is SO sweet)?
I noticed there isn't a current thread for this subclass so I figured id start one ;)
I thought it looked OK, but not exactly my cup of tea. ****** warlock just isn't my thing. For full disclosure, I am butthurt over the aberrant sorc being removed, so I might be a bit unfair to the Hentailock.

Any time an unfathomably powerful entity sweeps in and offers godlike rewards in return for just a few teensy favors, it’s a scam. Unless it’s me. I’d never lie to you, reader dearest.
My 10 yr old daughter is currently running this class in a campaign I am running and seems to really enjoy it. She likes to plant the tentacle strategically in the middle of the fight to be able to slap around and harass multiple foes if possible with that 10 ft reach. I created a custom patron for her since she loved the mechanics but did not want her patron to be a monster so her patron is a primordial mermaid that grants its followers control over the ocean. Her tentacle is a stream of living water. It's a good time.
She is only level 3 now but looking to level her up relatively quickly so she gets to play with some of the other features. I think it is all around a great addition to the Warlock subclass line up. Very thematic. Adds interesting mechanics that give the warlock things to do with bonus actions and reactions. All around solid subclass in my opinion.
hmmm I think the "Unleash the Depths" part need to be boosted for exemple
the transport is asking from you a place you have been that is within 100 miles within a period of 24 hour ... why 24 hour? there is so little versatility here that it hurt I love the idea of a fight or flight moment but out of combat 24 hour is so short
I would get rid of the time restraint at this level if you want to access fast traveling abbility it is possible to get even better than that at this level getting rid of the 24 hour period wouldn't increase the potency BUT at least peoples wouldn't go everytime "welp I guess we can ask the wizard to teleport us to the other side of the world" this abbility can only be restored trough long rest why not allowing the player to waste it?
for the damaging part the aoe is too small instead of 10 feet it should be 15 and raise up the damages a bit it is a 14 level ability you are supposed to damage your ennemies not tickle them my only guess at why it is so weak is to proc hex
I will be starting a Warlock next week for an avernus campaign. I purposely do not want fiend as that seems too cliche and I really want to try the new subclasses.
I can't decide between Lurker and Genie. I know Genie officially was posted and Lurker we still only have UA to go on but it seems that if Lurker stays as is, it is the more "offensive" of the two? Am I wrong in that assumption? If that were true then I love the idea of doing something else per round other than eldritch blast when my spells run out and my party are jerks and won't short rest 🤣
I'd love to hear more expert thoughts on this soggy subclass as well.
***Yes I know there was the fathomless leak but I'd rather just wait for the real day just in case.
from what I understood the genie is still in UA for now and it use your proficiency to allow you to rest in a nice place it also allow you to at low evel to deal more damage once per turn it is kinda shit you also get a damage resistance... and also limited wish really isn't so good since you need 1d4 days until you can use it again and it can only be used for spells that need only 1 action not a minute or a bonus action
maybe when tasha cauldron come out we will see some change but until then you should only be a genie warlock if you multiclass with rogue just to be thematic and also proficiency damage... it seem to be build around rogues
lurker make you use your bonus action every round and the tentacle trigger your hex too so at least it make hex feel more usefull than just give diseadvantage to ennemies attacks and eve, tually you can save the head of your friends if the ennemies got a vorpal sword and roll a 20
you can also do the aquaman and speak to fish and if you are good with persuasion while you are on the sea you could potentially get allies easely or making them not attack you it depend of the DM you could also ask if they saw fallen ships if you want some treasure or if there is danger in the area they were here longer than you
so yes the lurker is more usefull in combat than genie if you wanna do only warlock
So far, I like my LotD a lot. We do play a maritim setting though.
I am only lvl3 but at this low level the damage output is sick and I feel a bit dirty when I compare it to the rest of the party. The tentacles are comparable to spirital weapon (thus I have like 3 additional lvl2 spell slots). It probalby falls off later a bit but at the moment I can start with hex+eldritch and in the following turns it is eldritch + tentacles. That is D10+3 (+D6) + D8 (+D6) damage in a turn for me. I think that is among the highest there is for low lvl characters.
I have agonizing blast + mask of many faces. Pact is chains, but that is purely a style pick (tome would be the most effective pick imho). Disguise self and find familiar are two of the best spells as they are so flexible and do not block the warlock's limited spell slots.
ohhh? I thought chain was only good with a celestial warlock since you can touch spell at range
personally in invocation my fav choices I would pick are detect magic at will and either agonizing blast or silent image at will to cover the whole party or in battle if no more slot are available I can clap my hands together and a deep smoke envelope me and give disadvantage to those trying to hit me and it look like I actually used a item at low level there is no true sight so it really shine there
Chain is good for a lot of things related to what you can do with the familiar. It particularly shines with celestial, but it's good with other patrons as well.

A familiar is just super useful whether you get it via chains or tome. The special pact familiars do have some nice perks but overall tome is probalby much better for LotD. Blade pact I don't like apart from the Hexblade anyways.
I chose chains for several reasons: In my view, my patron was more likely to send me a creature from the depth instead of a tome (we changed the appearance of the familliar to match the patron), our party has already all the ritual casters (except druid) and I didn't want to compete with our wizard for spells, but most of all, the special familiar is much cooler and has nice opportunities to interact with :-)
As long as you don't cripple your character, you don't always need to take all the optimal picks ;-)

You go with Chain if you want to command the best scout in the game (specifically the Imp and as a close second the Quasit). That's the main reason. That you can transfer touch spells is just a neat bonus.

what invocation have you chosen? I do see the +3 to eldritch blast and I am also curious of the pact choice I would guess a tome pact?

no other patron give touch spells I think there is literally only the level 3 one and all warlock have access to it
you don't go chain for just touch spells.
