If you cast Animate Object at 9th level, you'd get 18 tiny flying objects that have a +8 to hit and each with 18 AC and 1d4+4 dmg each. So would the use of Rope Trick cut off the spell activation of these objects once you enter the extra dimensional space? If not, this combo seems overkill if you combine this with a Fighter's action surge since you could still direct your tiny objects to attack the enemies you see but the enemy cant target you to attack or cast spells on you.
The way I see it, animate objects continues to work if you maintain concentration, but you cannot issue commands through the entrance. They'll continue to follow any "course of action" you've previously given them. Note that if you order them to attack they'll each attack exactly once, and the objects will only defend themselves if it's inherent in their course of action or if they're left without orders. Posting them as guards is a good bet, though.
