By 14th level, you have learned the secret of weaving shadow magic into your illusions to give them a semi-reality. When you cast an illusion spell of 1st level or higher, you can choose one inanimate, nonmagical object that is part of the illusion and make that object real. You can do this on your turn as a bonus action while the spell is ongoing. The object remains real for 1 minute. For example, you can create an illusion of a bridge over a chasm and then make it real long enough for your allies to cross.
The object can’t deal damage or otherwise directly harm anyone.
so by looking at the class feature it would be a no go on disguise self as it’s not an inanimate illusion. Yes you can make the chains real. But malleable illusion works on disguise self which will let you change forms on the fly.
I think what illusory reality would do is make the disguise real. RAW, if you create, say, a hat as part of your disguise, no one could feel the hat. Their hand would pass through it. But, illusory reality would make the hat real.
It says you can turn one inanimate, nonmagical object and make it real.
You can make Disguise Self to make yourself have gills, but they wouldn't work, because gills have an animate function, filtering the O2 from water to breathe.
You could however give yourself light/medium/heavy armor, and make that real.
(I personally consider a set of objects as a singular object, since 5E doesn't go into fine detail like that. So I see a set of Thieves' Tools to be a valid object to animate with Illusory Reality and be able to use it for the full minute, if the Illusion was made by Minor Illusion or greater spell that can make objects.)
So, does anyone know what would happen if I use Illusory Reality on my disguise self spell? Would it act as a alter self spell?
Also, can you use Illusory reality on lets say a illusion of chains around your opponents? It is not dealing damage or directly harming them.
When the DM smiles, it is already to late.
