A thorned ring is a long forgotten tradition among Ritekeepers. Now the practitioners among Briarlords and Thornbearers are the last few that still use these items. Thorned rings heighten one's penance, allowing for a closer attunement to rituals of that manner. 

When you take an action you may also deal 1 piercing damage that cannot be reduced in any way. After taking this piercing damage, profane rituals and blood rituals can be performed in half the time required for 1 minute. A thorned ring staves off the effects of rot through constant pain.
