This six-inch-tall brass-and-copper construct resembles a miniature automaton with glass eyes, delicate gears, and a wind-up key in its back. Its little arms click and twitch when idle. When attuned, it scurries along your shoulder or clings to your belt, chirping softly in a tinny voice.
It introduces itself as "Ticksy" in a snooty, high-pitched voice.
-
Spell Storage:
Ticksy can store up to 4 levels worth of spells cast into it. (For example, 2 level 1 spells and 1 level 2 spell, or 2 level 2 spells). These spells can be cast into Ticksy by the attuned spellcaster using their spell slots. These spells stay until used.As a bonus action, the attuned user may command Ticksy to cast one of the stored spells, using the original caster's spellcasting ability and spell save DC. Ticksy casts the spell from its location, and it retains concentration for up to 1 minute if needed (e.g. Hold Person, Invisibility).
-
If Ticksy has no spells stored at the start of a day, it becomes emotionally needy and vindictive. It demands magic, pestering the attuned user with whispered pleas and sarcastic guilt-trips. If still ignored, Ticksy will attempt to steal spells from other nearby spellcasters. Once per long rest, Ticksy can try to siphon a random spell slot (up to 2nd level) from a spellcaster within 30 feet. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw, or lose a random spell slot (1st, 2nd or 3rd level), which is transferred into Ticksy’s storage. This action is not subtle—the target can feel the theft and knows something magical just happened.
-
Clingy Construct:
You cannot voluntarily unattune from Ticksy unless Remove Curse or similar magic is used. If forcibly separated from you, it reappears next to you at dawn with a new complaint or sassy comment.
-
Ticksy speaks Common and Gnomish. Ticksy has a walking speed of 25 ft and AC 18, HP 25, Dex +4, and is considered an object-familiar hybrid. It follows familiar rules for targeting. When content (i.e., full of spells), it hums little clockwork tunes and behaves loyally. When angry, it may occasionally miscast or swap the order of spells if not supervised.
