Otherwise known as a repeating crossbow, this crossbow ignores the loading characteristic of a normal crossbow. Because it is fired in rapid succession, the range of the weapon is reduced to 75 (250) ft. The built in ammunition box holds 8 bolts to be fired before having to be reloaded. An action is required to reload the ammunition box or exchange the bolts with a different type of bolt.

This magical crossbow adds 1 to the weapon’s attack and damages rolls.

On an attack roll critical failure, the crossbow loading mechanism jams. You must roll a percentage die, and on a roll of less than 10, the weapon is broken and must be repaired by smith’s tools. On a roll of 10 or higher, the jam can be cleared with an action. 

Proficiency with a Heavy Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
