Crafted with a reciprocating Dwemer gyroscope, this tinker's shield can be collapsed into a simple bracer when not needed. Even when deployed, it remains attached to the bracer, leaving the user's hands free.

Compact deployment 

This shield occupies the bracer slot whether deployed or not. While not deployed, it can be concealed by armor or regular clothes and cannot be discovered except by a creature that spends its action and succeeds on a DC 20 Investigation check. It can be deployed or retracted as an action, bonus action, or reaction. The AC bonus does not stack with that of another shield.

Spell consumption 

When you succeed on a saving throw against a spell, you can use your reaction to have the shield absorb the spell’s energy. The spell’s energy is shunted into a stable demiplane and all of it’s effects are negated. When a spell is negated this way, the shield gains a number of charges equal to the spell’s level. The shield can hold a number of charges equal to your proficiency bonus plus your Intelligence modifier.

Occult Reification 

At the end of each long rest, the number of charges in the shield will become zero. When it does, the shield will create an arcane crystal with a number of charges equal to the number of charges removed from the shield. As a bonus action, you can crush the crystal to restore a number of spell levels equal to the number of charges the crystal possesses. The arcane crystal can also be consumed to restore other metaphysical resources: ki points and sorcery points. The number of points restored will be equal to the charges the crystal contains. It can also be used as a magical reagent for crafting, with it’s rarity determined by the number of charges it contains: 1-3 (common), 4-5 (uncommon), 6-8 (rare), 9-11 (very rare), and 12+ (legendary).

Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.
