This thick bracelet worn on a wrist bears a small 8" diameter metal disc that can be used as a shield when needed but keeps the hand free.  This is part of the nature of the Buckler and requires no skill on the part of the wearer.  The bearer of the buckler can use an action to expend a charge to cast mage armor or as a reaction can expend a charge casting shield to defend from an incoming attack.  Spellcasters and thieves favor this item as it provides defense while leaving hands free for casting, weapons or tools.
