Armor (shield), very rare (requires attunement)

Unattuned you gain a +1 bonus to AC and Dexterity saves while you wield this shield. This bonus is in addition to the shield's normal bonus to AC.

When Attuned, the shield also grants the following abilities:

  • When a ranged weapon attack hits you while the shield is equipped, you can use it's reaction to reduce the damage by 1d10 + your Strength modifier.
  • You can also deflect melee attacks and single target ranged spell attacks  (like Melf's Acid Arrow or Fire Bolt) in the same way as they deflect projectiles.
  • If an attack passes within reach of you, it also allows you to use deflection to protect characters and objects other than yourself. If there is any bleed through damage, it is split equally between you and the target.
  • Anytime there is bleed through damage, you must roll a d20.  If you roll a 1, the shield's aura is too damaged and it loses all its magic until you re-attune to it.

A shield is made from wood or metal and is carried in one hand. Wielding a shield increases your Armor Class by 2. You can benefit from only one shield at a time.
