Ring, uncommon (requires attunement by a Attunement. A creature must finish a short rest focusing on this item to attune to it. A creature can be attuned to no more than three magic items at a time. If you attune to a fourth, you must end attunement to one of the others.)

This unassuming gold band is set with a thumb‑nail ruby that looks oddly deep, as if a thin red line vanishes into its heart. When the ring is quiet, the gem is dull and cloudy, like old glass. The moment you will it to life, a sharp warmth pricks the skin beneath the band, and the ruby flashes with a hard, focused gleam. A strand of crimson light whips outward from the stone, humming with tension as it spears across open air to bite into stone, timber, or iron like a spectral piton.

Up close, the “line” is no thicker than a bootlace, yet it feels as solid as a mooring rope under your fingers. It sings faintly with a high, glassy note whenever weight hangs from it, the tone rising and falling with each sway. As you ride the line, the world blurs past in streaks of color and wind roars in your ears, but your body hangs weightless, cradled by an invisible force that keeps you just out of reach of grasping hands and snapping jaws below.

Mechanical Properties

  • Ring, uncommon (requires attunement)

  • Zipline Creation. As an action, you create a line of magical force: choose up to two solid surfaces you can see, each within 150 feet of you. A taut, visible crimson line of force anchors between those points. The line lasts for up to 1 minute, or until you dismiss it (no action required).

  • Riding the Line. While the line exists and you are within 5 feet of it, you can use a bonus action to move up to 50 feet along the line. This movement:

    • Does not provoke opportunity attacks.

    • Leaves you suspended within 5 feet of the line, at least 3 inches above surfaces below.

  • You must keep the hand wearing the ring aimed roughly toward the line while you ride it, but you can otherwise act normally.

  • Once the ring’s line has been active for a total of 1 minute, the magic cannot create another line until the next dawn.

Notes: Attunement. A creature must finish a short rest focusing on this item to attune to it. A creature can be attuned to no more than three magic items at a time. If you attune to a fourth, you must end attunement to one of the others.
