Armor (shield), varies (requires attunement by a Can be attuned by any class.)

While attuned to and wielding this shield, you gain the following benefits based on your proficiency bonus. Once your proficiency bonus increases to the required amount, new benefits will automatically become available to use.

 

Proficiency bonus +2

You can attack with this shield as an off-hand weapon, using the rules for two-weapon fighting (PHB Pg. 195). It is considered an improvised bludgeoning weapon that deals 1D4 damage. If you have proficiency with shields, you are considered proficient with improvised weapons for the purposes of using this shield to attack.

 

Proficiency bonus +3

While on a mount, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on a melee attack roll that targets you or your mount.

 

Proficiency bonus +4

If you make a successful off-hand attack using this shield on your turn, you can use your reaction to try to shove a creature within 5 feet of you with your shield.

Additionally,  the shield's improvised weapon damage increases to 1D6.

 

Proficiency bonus +5

You can make a additional reaction during each round of combat. The reaction gained from this magic item cannot be used to repeat a reaction that you have already taken this turn.

 

Proficiency bonus +6

When an attack that requires an attack roll, is declared against an ally and you are within 5 Ft. of either the attacker or your ally, you can use your reaction to interpose yourself between them. Depending on the distance you need to move, you can accomplish this in one of two ways. You either move 5 Ft. into your ally's space, shoving them 5 Ft. in a direction of your choice into an unoccupied space, or teleport to your to your ally's space, shoving them 5 Ft. in a direction of your choice into an unoccupied space. This allows you to intercept the attack, becoming the new target. The attack roll must now hit your AC instead of your ally's. If the attack is successful, you take the damage dealt. If you are unable to move to an ally's space or are unable to shove them into an unoccupied space you cannot perform this reaction.

Additionally, the improvised weapon damage of this shield increases to 1D8.

Shields require the Utilize action to Don or Doff. You gain the Armor Class benefit of a Shield only if you have training with it.

Notes: Bonus: Armor Class, This shield is constructed from wood, and reinforced with steel bands. It is larger than most shields, and provides more protection against incoming attacks. This shield grants a +3 bonus to your AC instead of the normal +2. Additionally, the rarity of this magic item changes based on the person wielding it and their proficiency bonus. The item starts out as an uncommon magic item. Its rarity increases by one step for each point of the intended wielder's proficiency bonus above +2. The purchasing price should increase to reflect this., Can be attuned by any class., Combat, Warding
