Weapon (crossbow, hand), rare (requires attunement)

You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

This hand crossbow has 6 charges. When the last charge is expended, the crossbow ceases to function until the next dawn (including as a weapon).

Snaring Bolt. When you hit a creature with an attack from this weapon, you can expend 1 charge to cause the target to be bound tightly in ropes. For 1 minute the target is restrained. A target restrained by this weapon can use an action to make a DC 15 Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check.

On a success, the creature is no longer restrained by the rope. Additionally, you can speak a command word as a bonus action to release the target. The rope disappears after the target is no longer restrained.

Grapple Line. As an action, you can expend 1 charge to shoot a rope at surface within 30ft of you. The end of the rope magically binds to most surfaces (at the DM's discretion). The rope can support the weight of about 2 medium creatures (carrying a reasonable amount of gear -- DM's discretion applies once again).

Additionally, as a bonus action, you can cause the rope to reel you towards the target surface. You can release the rope at any time, at which point it disappears. If the rope is not released it disappears after 1 minute.

Proficiency with a Hand Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.

This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Vex. If you hit a creature with this weapon and deal damage to the creature, you have Advantage on your next attack roll against that creature before the end of your next turn.
