Wondrous Item, legendary (requires attunement by a creature except ones who do not sleep, are immortal, or are immune to magical aging effects.)
This small glass hourglass is filled with fine black sand that appears to sparkle like the night's sky. Etched into the glass on either ends are arcane sigils which roughly translate to "youth" and "experience." When illuminated by a detect magic spell, it gives off the golden aura of Transmutation. The history and precise origins of this powerful magical item is unclear. It could have been crafted from the fallen branches of the Grandfather Tree, enchanted under the guidance of a Gynosphinx, connected to a dunemantic experiment, or even designed by Primus - the immortal ruler of Mechanus.

Ritual of Slumber. Before taking a long rest and sleeping for at least 8 hours, a creature attuned to this item may invert the hourglass and place it by their bedside. When they awake, the sands of time will have transformed their very being. They are shifted one age category younger or older depending on which side faces up. The Racial Lifespans and Age Effects tables describe typical age ranges for each playable race as well as changes to a creature based on its age. Any listed ability score modifications or proficiency changes are replaced with subsequent changes to one's age category.

A Life Cut Short. If altering the flow of time causes the creature to exceed its lifespan, the creature dies peacefully in their sleep. It and everything it is wearing and carrying, except magic items, are reduced to a pile of fine black sand. The creature can be restored to life only by means of a true resurrection or a wish spell. A character who reaches, but does not exceed their maximum age, dies of old age within the next 30 days. Every use of the Hourglass of Timelessness permanently reduces the user’s lifespan, and the age variability die (used to determine one's maximum lifespan) is decrease by one size category (i.e. d100 to d20, d20 to d12, etc). Further manipulation of a creature's age will reduce their lifespan by one age category. A greater restoration spell cast on the target will place it one category closer to its true age for each level above fifth. A wish spell can return the caster and up to seven other creatures designated by the caster to their true age and return their Age Variability die to its natural size.
