The thundewave crossbow is incredibly heavy due to being entirely made of metal. A large compartment in the crossbow allows space for a seemingly infinite number of gemstones to be placed within. The thunderwave crossbow cannot fire bolts, but it has charges (usually 1d4-1 when found) that it regains through gemstones. For every 50 gp worth of gemstones placed into the crossbow, the crossbow gains 1 charge. You can expend any number of charges to cast thunderwave from the crossbow (DC 14). The level of the spell is equal to the number of charges expended. The DC increases by 2 at 3 charges, and again at 5, 7, and 9.
Proficiency with a Heavy Crossbow allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
