Wands can be used by Wizards and other spellcasters as an arcane focus. Wizard's arcane wands have a specific wood and a wand core, which is usually part of the remains of a magical creature, such as a Unicorn's hair, a Phoenix's feather, or a Dragon's heartstring. It is this wand core and the delicate nature of the wand's construction that makes it rare. Purchasers usually choose from among a selection of wands, one that relates to their personality. Only experienced and professional wand makers are able to make and repair wands.
Wand Wood: A wand can be made from a number of woods, usually with the wood type relating to the wielder's personality: Holly, Vine, Hawthorn, Hornbeam, Ash, Willow, Cherry, Cypress, Rosewood, Yew, Walnut, Mahogany, Cedar, Fir, Birch, Hazel, etc. These cannot be mundane trees, but have to be trees steeped in magical energy, usually mundane trees that grew near a magical hotspot and were transformed over time. Arcane Wands are usually 8 to 15 inches long. The wood type determines how flexible or rigid the wand is.
War Mage Wand. A variant of wand designed for arcane combat. You gain a +3 bonus to spell attack rolls made using the wand. In addition, you ignore half cover when making a spell attack.
Wand Cores:
A wand also must have some bodily part of a magical creature within it. This can be anything from a Pegasus feather, to a Hippocamp's heartstring, or a Pixie's wing. The rarer the creature, the more powerful the wand.
Dragon's Heartstring: A slain Dragon's heartstring used as a wand core, makes a wand that gives an additional 1d8 to all damage rolls on Evocation spell attacks made while wielding it.
Phoenix Feather: A Phoenix's feather used as a wand core. If a spellcaster can already cast cast Burning Hands, using this wand will enable them to cast it as a cantrip once per day. Using this wand, a spellcaster can also cast Daylight as a cantrip once per day.

Succubus Heartstring: A Succubus's heartstring used as a wand core. When you cast an Enchantment spell to Charm or Dominate another creature, using this wand forces the target creature to have disadvantage on its saving throw.
