This item looks like a standard portable hurricane lamp.  However, by manipulating subtle knobs on the lamp, it is possible to cast up to 5 lights up to 1 mile from the lamp. The lights can range in size from flickering candles to raging bonfires, but they cast no shadows and produce neither heat nor smoke. The lights can be seen even through dense fog and raging storm and can simulate the light from a lighthouse or village.  The functions can be determined through experimentation over several hours in the dark or within one hour on a DC15 intelligence or investigation check.
