Weapon (greataxe), legendary (requires attunement by a creature of good or neutral alignment; strength 15+)

Forged in an era of wild magic before the entrance of the Avatars into the world, Wizard's Bane is a Dwarven greataxe of unparalleled craftsmanship.

You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon, which deals force damage instead of slashing damage. When you hit a sorcerer or wizard with it, that target takes an extra 1d12 force  damage.

While holding the weapon, after you hit a sorcerer or wizard with a melee attack, you may use the greataxe to cast Silence on the target. Once used, this ability can't be used again until the next long rest.  You gain the feat Mage Slayer.

Sentience. Wizard's Bane is a sentient chaotic neutral weapon with an Intelligence of 18, a Wisdom of 12, and a Charisma of 14. It has hearing and darkvision out to a range of 120 feet.

The axe can speak, read, and understand Common, and it can communicate with its wielder telepathically. Its voice is gruff and growly. It knows every language you know while attuned to it.

Personality. Wizard's Bane was forged when a mischievous Dwarven fighter was cursed by an evil sorcerer to be forever imprisoned in his own weapon.  It hates wizards and sorcerers, and doesn't trust magic users of all types.

Wizard's Bane is cocky and loves to cause trouble.  It prefers to be wielded by fighters and barbarians.

Proficiency with a Greataxe allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.


This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.

Cleave. If you hit a creature with a melee attack roll using this weapon, you can make a melee attack roll with the weapon against a second creature within 5 feet of the first that is also within your reach. On a hit, the second creature takes the weapon’s damage, but don’t add your ability modifier to that damage unless that modifier is negative. You can make this extra attack only once per turn.
