Rod, very rare (requires attunement by a artificer)

This peculiar rod was created by the gnome artificer Gimble Nackle. It has the rough shape of a heavy pistol with five large rotating barrels surrounding the front of it. Each barrel is decorated with the head of a different chromatic dragon and has a different function. Although meant to represent each head of Tiamat, the barrels use various alchemical components and contraptions to recreate a chromatic dragon's breath. The rod weighs 5 pounds.

The rod has the following properties. Once three of these properties are used, no more properties can be used until the next dawn. In addition, a property cannot be used more than once before the next dawn.

Acid Breath. The black barrel of the rod is meant to represent the vile acidic breath of a black dragon. In reality, the barrel fires the thick gastric acids of a purple worm. You can use an action to fire a shot of acid in a line that is 5 feet wide and 60 feet long. Each creature in that line must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, taking 6d8 acid damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. In addition, the area is covered in viscid acid. When a creature moves into the effect's area for the first time on a turn or ends its turn there, it takes 2d8 acid damage. The acid dissipates after 1d6 rounds.

Lightning Breath. The blue barrel of the rod is the depiction of a blue dragon's lightning breath. The barrel amplifies a trapped will-o'-wisp's shocking jolt to create a powerful blast of lightning. You can use an action to fire a vivid bolt of lightning in a line that is 5 feet wide and 60 feet long. Each creature in that line must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw, taking 4d10 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. On a failed save, a creature is stunned until the end of its next turn.

Poison Breath. The rod's green barrel depicts the noxious gas breathed by green dragons. This barrel fires a dose of hallucinogenic gas that causes creatures to act in odd ways. You can use an action to release the gas in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that cone must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or take 6d6 poison damage, or half as much damage on a successful one. On a failed save, a creature is subjected to the effects of the confusion spell until the end of its next turn.

Fire Breath. The powerful fire breath of a red dragon is represented by the rod's red barrel. It uses the essence of a fire elemental to shoot scorching bursts of fire. You can use an action to discharge this fire in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that cone must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw or take 9d6 fire damage, or half as much damage on a successful one.

Cold Breath. The white barrel of the rod is the representation of a white dragon's freezing ice breath. A magically enhanced version of a winter wolf's breath organ replicates this effect. You can use an action to shoot an icy blast in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that cone must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw or take 6d8 cold damage, or half as much damage on a successful one. On a failed save, a creature has its movement speed halved until the end of its next turn.
