This Oil is alchemically created from a sample of aberrant flesh. If dripped on a weapon that is not an artifact, the weapon starts to mutate. Roll 1d3
- Bludgoening
- Piercing
- Slashing
The weapon permanently mutates according to the damage type you rolled, growing tense flesh, toothy maws from which tentacles spring and flail and the blade itself becomes covered in serrated teeth. The weapon deals an additional 1d4 of the appropriate damage type. If the weapon is non magical, this damage is also not magical. If the weapon is magical, this damage is also magical. If the wielder rolls a 1 on its attack roll, this damage is dealt to the wielder.
Additionally, roll 1d100. On a 10 or lower, the weapon permanently fuses with the individual that applied the Oil, replacing the lower part of the arm with itself and becoming an extension of the wielder. If the creature doesn't have proficiency with the weapon, it gains proficiency with that weapon.
Notes: Damage, Buff, Utility, Combat, Cursed
I like the idea. It's not too overpowered, if anything it is underpowered for a rare potion, an added 1d4? I'd say it doesn't need to big a buff, maybe replace the 1d4 with a 1d6, 1d8, or 1d10, make the potion worthwhile. Especially with the curse. I do like the curse though, I'd know several people and d&d characters who wouldn't mind if not like having a meat cleaver or some other weapon fused to their hand. And I like how you gain proficiency with it if you didn't already. because having a Simitaur for a right hand you're bound to be good at using the weapon eventually.
It is a permanent increase in damage to any weapon, which also applies to crits. Especially for a fighter that can mean up to 3 or 4 extra d4's a turn. It is not supposed to be much, simply because of its permanent nature. I was honestly on the fence about making it Very Rare because of that. If we take a look at certain spells that grant an increase in damage, like Holy Weapon, we see a 5th Level Spell that grants an extra 2d8 radiant damage. Magic Weapon makes a weapon a +1 magic weapon for 1 hour. The benefit of this oil is a permanent buff to its damage that is comparable to a +2 buff in damage output (a temporary - 1 hour - buff to a weapon if we use Magic Weapon as baseline), that can be stacked with magic weapon damage. So my thought process was "Ok, very rare. But there is a chance that your character horribly mutates like a chaos worshipper from warhammer." (which is something I would BEG for to happen to my character. I love that shit) So because of that mostly as negative regarded drawback I reduced the rarity from Very Rare to rare.
Someone watched Parasyte recently awesome idea though totally using this in my next session
