This is a antique Dwarven Great-hammer (maul) made in a style that seems to be from approximately 5,000 years ago. An inscription, In Ancient Dwarven Ruins, reads: “Stained in the Blood of a Worthy Foe, Cleansed in Ancestors Woe, Rested on Ancient Skull, My Blessings will be Full.” The weapon is +1 to hit and damage. If Attuned by a character of at least 5th level, the character will become aware of the prophetic nature of the inscription. At 5th level the wielder will know that victory in single combat against an enemy of equal or greater level will unlock further benefits of the weapon. This will unlock the ability to use the charges stored in the hammer. It has 4 charges, and regains 1-3 charges each dawn. The first stage will grant the wielder the following options with each charge used: 1) Restance to Thunder Damage for 1 hour, or 2) Ability to Cast Booming Blade at current level on this weapon.
At level 10, the bonus of the weapon becomes +2 to hit and damage, and the character will become aware that the second part of the inscription indicates that if the wielder engages in succesfully righting a wrong done to, or gaining vengance for, an ancestor, by eliminating the person(s), or its decendants or sucessors responsible for the wrong or hurt. Upon completeing this part of the inscription, the following benefits are unlocked: An additional charge can now be stored in the weapon, and the second stage will grant the wielder the additional options with each charge used: 3)Resitance to Lighting Damage for 1 hour, or 4) Ability to cast Lightning Bolt at 3rd level.
At level 15 , the bonus of the weapon becomes +3 to hit and damage, and the character will become aware that the final part of the iscription indicates that if the wielder defeats an ancient undead being of high level with this weapon, (delivers the killing blow) the following benefits are unlocked: An additional charge can now be stored in the weapon (total of 6,) and the final stage will grant the wielder these addtional options with each charge used: 5) Immunity from Thunder OR Lighting Damage for 1 hour, and 6) Ability to cast Fly on self as a bonus action using the weapon as focus, without other components.
Proficiency with a Maul allows you to add your proficiency bonus to the attack roll for any attack you make with it.
This weapon has the following mastery property. To use this property, you must have a feature that lets you use it.
Topple. If you hit a creature with this weapon, you can force the creature to make a Constitution saving throw (DC 8 plus the ability modifier used to make the attack roll and your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, the creature has the Prone condition.
