This master crafted rapier is made of a sliver alloy, it's sheath is of black and red dragon hide and it's pommel depicts roses with TWO sharp thorns near the blade guard.
While holding this rapier, you can speak its command word 'defend' as a bonus action to cause it to animate. The rapier leaps into the air and hovers in your space to protect you as if you were wielding it, leaving your hands free & granting a +3 to your AC. The rapier remains animated for 1 minute, until you use a bonus action to end this effect, or until you are incapacitated or die, at which point the rapier falls to the ground or into your hand if you have one free. NOTE drawing another weapon will cause the effect to be broken and the sword to drop to the ground, however any NON weapon could be pulled and used. The sword moves with you staying within 5 feet, unless you use some magical means of movement such as misty step, teleport, being banished etc.. all of which will cause the sword to drop to the ground in the location you last were.
This power can be activated up to 3x per day, and resets on the dawn.
In addition when wielded, (must be in the persons hand), the user can either cast Dimensional Door or Fly upon them self as a 'bonus action'. The number of times this can be done is also 3x per day, and resets on the dawn.
Lastly the pommel of the sword has two small sharp 'Thorns' , by pricking a finger on a thorn blood is drawn and one 'spell' per thorn is able to be stored in the rapier, the cost to store the spell is 3x the spell level CANTRIPS cannot be stored in the sword. Any stored spell can be cast as a bonus action, the lost HP cannot be regained until the spell is released from the sword. Each thorn can store one spell the spell stored much come from the person attuned to it. The sword need not be drawn for the stored spell to be cast, however the pommel must be touched to release the spell.
