This tiny crystal vial contains one dose of fine orange powder that smells and tastes of bitter cinnamon.  Typically, 1d4 + 4 vials of spice mélange are found together, and more can be produced by those who learn the secrets of its creation.

The substance within the vial is created using an otherworldly recipe that hails from a desert planet in a far-off sphere.  The recipe calls for the bile of a great worm (such as a purple worm), which is mixed with water, yeast, and vinegar, and left to ferment for 30d6 days into a pre-spice mass, which is then sun-dried. The resulting powder is a potent, drug-like spice that supernaturally expands one's awareness across time and space. The spice is highly addictive and, with extended use, mutagenic.

For 8 hour after consuming the spice, your eyes glow with a dim blue light, and you gain the benefits of the foresight spell.  In addition, until the effect ends, any spell slot you expend to cast a divination spell counts as a spell slot of one level higher.

Addictive. If you have benefited from the spice within a 10-day period prior to consuming a new dose, you must succeed on a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or become addicted to the spice. If you are already addicted, you mutate instead, as described by the "Mutagenic" property below.

While addicted to the spice, whenever you aren't under the spice's effects, you are poisoned. While poisoned this way, you must repeat the Constitution saving throw every hour. On a failure, your hit point maximum is reduced by 1d10. The reduction lasts until you are cured of your addiction. You die if this effect reduces your hit point maximum to 0.

The poison can only be ended by consuming a dose of the spice or curing your addiction. You can be cured of the addiction by succeeding on the hourly saving throw three consecutive times or with a greater restoration, heal, or wish spell.

Mutagenic. If you fail your saving throw against addiction to the spice while you are already addicted, you mutate.  You are warped by the spice, as determined by rolling on the Flesh Warping table in the "Demon Ichor" portion of the "Features of Avernus" section in chapter 3 of the Baldur's Gate: Descent into Avernus.  A greater restoration or heal spell can end one such flesh warping mutation while a wish spell can end all such effects on a creature.
