This leatherbound book is ancient, its pages are brittle with age, but still hold together as if bound in protective magic. The ink on the pages has a soft shimmer as if it was not put to the page by mundane means. When the Tome is attuned, it gains the following properties.
Transference - When you attune the Tome of Balance you may hold 1 spellbook while you do so. As you attune, the contents of the held spellbook are magically transferred to the Tome, leaving the original spellbook blank. Additionally, the cost and time requirements for scribing new spells to the Tome are halved. If you die, the contents of the Tome remain intact for one month. If you de-attune the Tome, the contents are immediately and forever erased.
Ancestral Teachings - The Tome functions as an arcane focus. When you attune to the Tome and every time you gain a wizard level thereafter, you may choose a number of spells by level equal to or less than you Intelligence modifier (minimum one 1st level spell), these spells are always prepared in the Tome and can be cast once per short or long rest (A wizard with an Intelligence modifier of 3 can prepare three 1st level, one 1st level and one 2nd level, or one 3rd level spell). Additionally, whenever you gain a Wizard level, you may remove any number of spells from the Tome and replace them with a number of spells equal to or less than the total level of spells removed (if you remove one 1st level and one 2nd level spell, you may add three 1st level, one 1st level and one 2nd level, or one 3rd level spell). Spells removed in this way may never be added to the Tome by the attuned Wizard ever again, unless via the Wish spell.
Philosopher's Rebuke - Whenever you successfully Dispel Magic or Counterspell, you may immediately recover one spell slot of a level lower than the one used to cast the spell and you may not recover a spell slot greater than 6th level in this way. You may do this a number of times equal to your Proficiency bonus per short or long rest.
Notes: Requires attunement by a Wizard
