All of the pages of this intricately designed tome are blank, but when this book is placed on an object or creature, it flips to a random page and writing appears on that page as if someone were writing in it. The writing consists of a definition of what the book is touching- and the definition can be vague or precise: or use language that could be strangely futuristic or super archaic. Once the book is placed on a different object or creature, the pages flip again and the former page has all of it's writing erased.
Instead of a definition, the book may supply smaller pieces of literature pertaining to what item or creature it's touching. For example, if a food item is placed on the book, it may supply a recipe. If a holy symbol is placed on the book, it would give information about a god. Or if a wizard touches the book, it could list that wizard's spell list. The magical properties of this book are not affected by antimagic fields or similar effects that hinder magic.
