"Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." This is a common phrase that is told to children throughout their lives; however, it is not the case. Words can bring just as much pain as any blade or fist and deities know this. Aphrodite, the goddess of lust, love and beauty, is one of the few deities that knows how to use the power of words to their highest ability. The goddess gifted, or so it is believed, the mortals with this choker necklace. She imbued it with the ability to bestow upon the wearer the power to turn their voice into a tool and a weapon. The choker, once worn, changes it's appearance to match the fashion aesthetic of the wearer, but stays in the shape of a choker. Just as the voice matures and grows as the creature does, so does the choker.
At 1st Level:
- You gain the Vicious Mockery cantrip if you don't have it already.
- The cantrip is more powerful than normal and scales as follows:
- 1st level the damage is 2d4 psychic damage.
- 5th level the damage is 4d4 psychic damage.
- 11th level the damage is 6d4 psychic damage.
- 17th level the damage is 8d4 psychic damage.
- The cantrip is more powerful than normal and scales as follows:
- When you use the Choker to cast Vicious Mockery and the target fails (the DC equals your class save DC, if you don't have one it is 8 + proficiency bonus + CHA modifier, whichever is higher), you can choose one of the effects to impact the creature:
- The target has disadvantage on all attack rolls before the end of its next turn.
- You can spend one charge and cause the target's speed to be reduced by half until the start of its next turn.
At 5th Level:
The Choker increases in strength as your voice becomes more powerful.
- You gain two more options when the target of your Vicious Mockery fails its saving throw:
- You can spend one charge and cause the next damage roll the target makes that uses its Strength to be halved.
- You can spend two charges and cause all damage rolls the target makes that uses its Strength to be halved until the end of its turn.
- The Vicious Reverb Choker has now become able to modify your voice. You are now able to mimic the voice of a creature you heard speaking for at least 1 minute, granted you understand the language spoken. A creature can discern them from false with a successful Wisdom (Insight) check opposed to your Charisma (Deception) check. You do get advantage on your Deception check if the creature cannot see your physical form.
At 11th Level:
Your knowledge of the Choker has allowed you to gain more of its abilities.
- You gain the Dissonant Whispers spell. You can expend 3 charges and cast the spell as if it were at 6th level.
- Range: 60 feet.
- Components: V
- Duration: Instantaneous
- You whisper a discordant melody that only one creature of your choice within range can hear, wracking it with terrible pain. The target must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 3d6 psychic damage and must immediately use its reaction, if available, to move as far as its speed allows away from you. The creature doesn’t move into obviously dangerous ground, such as a fire or a pit. On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage and doesn’t have to move away. A deafened creature automatically succeeds on the save.
- At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 1st.
- You gain two more options when the target of your Vicious Mockery fails its saving throw:
- You can spend two charges and cause the target only be able to one melee or ranged attack during its next turn.
- You can spend three charges and cause the target to be frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
At 17th Level:
Much like the goddess herself you have become a master at harming others with your voice.
- You gain one more options when the target of your Vicious Mockery fails its saving throw:
- You can spend three charges and cause the target to be stunned until the end of your next turn.
- You can spend four charges and cause the target to be paralyzed.
The Vicious Reverb Choker has 10 charges that reset after a long rest. If you are targeted by dispel magic, treat this as a 5th level spell. While dispelled, the Choker cannot be used in anyway for 3 rounds.
Notes: Player rolling a percentile dice. DM decides the DC depending on the characters class and first impression
